Anybody have any tips or advice? This is my first time experiencing it. Was rough housing with my two youngest kids when I felt a sharp pain in my back and it shot down my left leg. Back has gotten a little better but leg is in absolute pain. Been pretty much stuck in a recliner ever since. This happened last Sunday. Chiropractor says he can make me 50% better in 4 weeks of treatment. I googled and YouTubed about everything I can think of and nothings really worked. Looks like I have to cancel my Oregon dunes trip as well.

So hydrating and doing your best to stretch it out is an obvious answer.
If you're open to other stuff, I hurt my back a couple of months ago is a freak deal while on the squat rack.
Back was spasming pretty badly. What ended up helping A. TON. was I took edibles. It completely stopped the
spasms, which helped relax the muscles and allow me to gently stretch it. Helped a lot with healing.

I roll on a foam roller. It's painful but the blood gets flowing. Roll your glutes and your back. Stretching the hamstrings is Huge too. Peace

Stretch and then stretch some more. I use an acupuncture mat in my recliner and sit on it with my bare ass and legs. My sciatica has been coming and going for the last 5 years, let us know if you find a miracle.

You need to see a Neuromuscular therapist.

Edibles only mask the issue. You need to go to the source of the problem, and work it out.
Kaiser has been less then helpful, along with workers comp at work. I had a video visit that diagnosed me with hip bursitis and a strained hamstring. Neither of which I think is true

Just ordered an acupuncture matt off Amazon. Can’t hurt to try it. Have been trying to stretch the best I can but quite painful.

I used to have this same issue every couple of years, it absolutely sucked. Turns out that sleeping on my stomach was the cause of all my issues. Started sleeping on my side (I snore like crazy on my back) and haven't had a problem in over 5 years. Once the swelling in your back goes down, the sciatic issues will subside.

well those inversion racks help...but in the state you are in now...you are screwed. It's inflamed and pissed...do you have a cold water pump for like knees and shoulders..that helps with the pain...

Valentine Chiropractic in Anaheim saved my life when I was younger... was in my 20s and worked at grocery store...mine was so bad I couldn't walk up stairs....changed me back. The best treatment was the rack, where he would pull my lower body away and give relief to my L5 S1....kind of what the inversion racks do now....

Treat it right.... or live with it forever... mine was gone for a good 20 yrs...then came back....I have to watch what I do.... staying active is the best medicine.

First rest and get the inflamed area to recover. Then like said above do stretches, daily. If I did them every day I would never have a issue, but like most I only do them when I feel the twinge of pain then stop once it feels better.

Bingo

This was a game changer for me. Also more firm bed

Acupuncture, core strengthening and If you are overweight, I highly suggest dropping some lbs.  I know it's not easy by I was having sciatic issues about 9 years ago.  I got serious about my diet, dropped 50 lbs and have had no issues since . . .

As said before it will more than likely have to come out of pocket, mine was not covered by insurance.  I am currently going through the same issues, I'm half way through my treatments and am feeling 10 times better.  I live in Riverside, and am going to treatment in Anaheim with OC Wellness medical group, its physical therapy, pain management, chiropractic care and other stuff.  If you want more info, shoot me a dm and I will be more than happy to discuss what they are doing.  I was recommended by friend that had same issues, the back pain, sciatic pain, shooting pain down my leg and numbness of feet.

I am to young to give an answer sorry my back is rock solid :jeff:

One of those stands that flip you upside down is on my list to try.

Dropping some lbs is certainly something I need to do. Heaviest I’ve ever been. Hopefully this lights a fire.

Walking - Take 4 Liquid Advil twice a day - once when you wake up, and 4 more before going to bed.  Stretch before you go to bed and when you wake up.

Walking is something I haven’t done much of. I have been stretching when the pain isn’t too bad.  The doctor prescribed ibuprofen and I’ve been taking that. No help yet.

Good luck - walking really helped me, more or less forced myself to do it to get the blood moving.  I also have this thing called back2life - link below. If you're in San Diego and want to borrow it let me know...its the exact motion I felt like i always needed but couldnt do on my own-  and one day saw a commercial on it.

I irritated my Piriformis muscle (in right butt cheek) on a ride where I had to kick start my 525 about 1000 times.  Suffered with Sciatica for a couple years until I started doing the 'Pidgeon Stretch'.  There are a lot of variations of 'Pidgeon', but working out (squats, etc) and stretching is the only thing that fixed my sciatica.

I had what I thought was severe Sciatica and after multiple treatments for pain relief and physical therapy Kaiser finally did a MRI. Diagnosis was spinal stenosis narrowing of outlet of Sciatic nerve. You have to pressure them to do the MRI it’s the only way to get to the underlying cause
