I am looking to trailer over a car for a car show in October. It will be at the Embarcadero Marina Park. I am not familiar with that area at all being from Arizona. Anyone recommend any cities or towns close by to stay in. Plan to drive car from there to show. Looking for cheap hotel in a nice area. Trying to avoid booking cheap hotel only to find out it is in the part of town that is not so great. Appreciate any feedback from people in the area.

Down town / little Italy will be closest but I would recommend hotel circle if you have a trailer.

Anything in Mission Valley will be your best best. Stay away from anything south of Downtown.

If you want to go big, stay in Mission Beach, Mission Bay (crown point), shelter island or anywhere on the water. Although the beach will suck if you have a trailer. Shelter Island has some nice hotels with bigger parking lots due to boat traffic.

BTW, there is not such thing as "cheap hotel" in San Diego. Maybe if you go to El Cajon or Lakeside. Then you can pay one of the 'lot lizards" to watch your trailer. LOL

Paradise Point is a nice place to stay, and they will work with you on trailer parking.
I second that. 100%. That’s where we go for our stay-cations.
Plus it’ll be a short cruise to the marina.
unless you’re on a budget then hotel circle is fine. Don’t stay in El Cajon, you’ll be missing a trailer when you come out

Or will have to evict 3-4 tweakers. Some nice places in and around mission bay. But generally anywhere in san diego will have vagrants and potential thieves lurking nearby. My vote would be loews resort on Coronado. Gated parking. Not cheap; but is cheap insurance

Dude, check out Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay, it's south but seems nice and clean. They are new development and still growing. I wouldn't worry about riff raff there but could be 7 or 8 miles to your show. I travel that direction almost daily and see tons of RVers heading there. I would feel safe there as opposed to the burned out SD spots. Give then a look.

You said you wanted something cheap but in a nice area - which to me you'd need to be about 20 or 30 miles from the Embarcadero.  Are you willing to drive about 30 minutes? In San Diego nice and cheap will be east - any hotels North of the 8 and east of the 15 will be nice / and I'd assume cheaper than something on the beach or in mission valley.  Poway in example...there's a hotel on Scripps Poway Parkway that's in the middle of a business park, but its far from the show.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am not opposed to driving a bit, I am only trailering the car over from AZ to keep the miles down on it. I have a 2005 with 20K miles. Trying to keep it as low as possible. I have a good friend in Hemet and may just trailer it there and either drive down or trailer it if I can find parking. Thanks again.

I wouldn't park my 1982 Honda Accord in Hemet overnight.  Hemet makes El Cajon look like Beverly Hills.  I-15 corridor north of I-8 has a lot of good safe choices, Hotel Circle and Paradise Point are also good.

What's "cheap"?
Trying to stay around $200 a night, will be there for 3 nights. Once you add up the gas, hotel, food, car show entry fee....... that equals an expensive weekend for a car show.

Got it.  Let me know if you need a place to drop the trailer, I'm about 25 miles from there.
