Made a post a while back about my S&S chassis breaking right in front of the front trans mounts, car was only a couple tubes away from the motor and trans laying in the sand.
I had been wanting to re do the back half of the car so that it wouldn’t sit so low, and decided to make some other upgrades while we were at it! (Bigger bypass shocks, sway bar, re mount catch can and some other odds and ends)
got car over to my hood friend Gary Martin’s house (BST Fabrication) and we got to work tearing the car down and cutting it apart.
machined up some inserts to sleeve the tubes internally where we cut it off. Old tubes were all .095, went with .120 on all the new stuff, and all tig welded.
next up was getting the rear tubes bent up and S4 mounted
should be much stronger now! Built some new motor mounts to match.
and pulled it back apart to get the sway bar all mounted and setup, not working with a lot of room in this chassis, luckily we had moved the transaxle back about 5/8” to give us some more room for it to fit.
Also changed the shock mounts to accommodate a 3.0” bypass, don’t have pics of that but ended up having a local shop (weller racing) cnc plasma cut out the tabs for me. Then we completely tore it down to paint it to match the powder coat.
This shot was at taken at 8:17 am january 7th, Saturday morning, goal was to get it all back together to make it back to Glamis for mlk weekend/camp genesis and the dune cleanup!
this was that same evening at 6:50, had a fire under my ass to get this back together and make the trip!
a few more odds and ends and it was back together Sunday evening
only issue we ran in it was shifter adjustment, ended up having to pull the passenger seat, console, and adjusting the stops on the shifter (moving the trans back affected the shifter operation apparently)
got the car back out and had a great trip, it handles like a completely different car with the sway bar and bigger bypasses, and she gets down!
not bad for a back yard build! This car started out as an ls1/2d car!
