My wife and were out walking last night & saw this strange looking van coming around the corner that was making suspiciously strange sounds.  I could not figure out what was strange about the sounds it was making….

My son (who works for Rivian) said they were going to start delivering these, but would not say into what markets or how many of them…….  Damm kids……… LOL

I got the picture of the back end of it as it went by…  the other 2 pictures I stole off of the internet.

Perfect application for them... limited areas...lots of down time for charging....should work out good for rivian.  I have friends that are in their collision repair side....cars are just built different now.

couple of intersting things.  the Rivian truck has a drag coefficient lower than any other truck on the market & its actually a good bit better than most of the cars on the market right now.

the DOT requires mirrors on the sides of vehicles.  camera's & monitors instead of mirrors is still not allowed............  guess the technology is just "too new for the US bureaucracy, to be able to overcome".

I believe Amazon is a 30% (not sure the exact number) owner of Rivian. I bought stock in them early on, guessing that if Amazon had that much money tied up into the company, they would not let if fail.

I thought the same thing when they put in the order for the Vans.

as of Feb of this year.  just something I found online.

Amazon has ordered 100,000 electric vehicles from Rivian for package deliveries.
Ford owns/owned 11.4%

I read that the drivers really like them compared to a standard van. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. The pickups are pretty cool. Expensive and with limited capability for sure but within those capabilities, they are impressive.

Furd is not helping the stability of the stock with their comments & dumping stocks.  It seems to me like they got a little but hurt over the whole Amazon thing (which I think they should have been)...  that said.......... the market is goofy as sheet right now & LOTS of once stable companies are scrambling to get their EBIT back up.  stuff is cra cra right now.........

@Fireballsocal, curious to know what you mean by this?  Ive not looked into EV's @ all, so all I really know is what my son tells me about the things they have done, I dont have much of a basis to compare too.

My boss just bought a Rivian to replace his Tesla.  he loves the Rivian, but said "its not a Tesla, they are just different cars.  Like Toyota truck and Cadillac Coupe De Ville, just not the same".  also comparing a car to a truck is not a straight up comparison as well.

My buddy has a Rivian. It is cool and FAST as F%*K. But he can't tow his boat from San Diego to Havasu. I would think that is "limited capabilities"

I am curious how the longevity will be. Some of the "cool tech" stuff to me is a PITA. like to move the AC vents, it is all electronic. You have to "move" them on the touch screen to get the vent to blow in a different direction. To me (a 50+ year old) that is stupid. To a kid, it might be cool. But I like my trucks to last 20+ years. The next generation doesn't keep stuff long term.

Our neighbor has a Tesla. I have seen the Service Tech car there a few times. I guess that is kind of nice they can come to you, as opposed to my truck sitting at the Ford Dealer for days.

@Punchdrunk Monkey, your comment about all of rhe dumb crap that could bcould is exactly what i told my son when he brought one by the house.  There is a servo that opens the door to allow you to plug the truck in.....  with shortages the way they are now....  screw that!!!

Like all EV's, they are quiet, efficient, and the rivian in particular is very powerful, fast, with excellent design. The big frunk, pass through bed tunnel storage, 20 amp inverter are useful additions. 835 horsepower and 900+ ft/lbs f torque will set you back in the seat. The all wheel drive system, while not groundbreaking, is pretty neat. Yes, range is limited and halves or more while towing. Yes, they aren't true green powered, take forever to charge and all the other negatives that come with an EV. I'm not a cheerleader for EVs by any means. But they do have positives, they are fun to drive, and for the near future, are just getting more popular and more capable.

Gotcha, I agree 100%.  My son wants me to get one & get rid of my old Dodge.  I would have to stop & charge it twice going to & from Glamis............  NOT gonna happen.  get me there on one charge & Id think about it (with his discount.  LOL).

If I understand correctly, your comments are EV related not really Rivian specific.

Even if you made it to Glamis how are you going to get home? DON~~~

charge that bitch up with my 1999 Generac that is about 32,000 dB's.  LMAO

Every dune trip has to be a minimum of 6 days long to charge the truck.  LOL

Would make for a nice trip. You would have to haul a lot of gas for the Generac. Coming from AZ we use to stay longer because it took so long to get there. DON~~~

Gas is cheap................ wait. no its not.  chit.......... this is starting to fall apart.  LOL.

I hear that they are putting charging stations into the spaces in RRE (the ones with hookups).  maybe I need to move up to the high class camping....

Be interesting to see what % of the Amazon fleet will actually be EV. I would speculate that in the end EV will be 10% of their fleet and just virtue signaling to the green insanity.

There is a Amazon Distro I pass by on my way to work I see at least 50 truck in a 30 min span

I'm guessing they will only be in the big metro areas.  San diego is a good spot for it.  And that distribution place that you drive by is ginormous...

You got me to wonderin..

Seven years and 10 billion deliveries later, Amazon now has 400,000 drivers worldwide, 40,000 semi-trucks, 30,000 vans, and a fleet of more than 70 planes.Sep 4, 2021
