Restoring ATV Plastics and Auto Trim

I've done it on a couple sets of plastics with a heat gun. Works great.

Got to get it real clean before you go after it with the heat.

I did this on the plastic on the bumper of my Dodge & it looked OK for a while, now it looks splotchy instead of just faded & grayish.

Yeah, had a neighbor get this done on his Chevy Avalanche. All that grey plastic cladding.  It was terrible a few months later.   I tried it a few years back on my Banshee plastics where some bending caused white to form in the creases.  It worked ok and much like the dirt bike fender.  I imagine different plastics act differently.  Maybe Scott can chime in on this.  @MGMFRP

The plastics are made from HDPE  (high density polyethylene) plastic, wich is pretty much wax based plastic.  It really isnt very UV stable and drys out over time.  When you see it turn white,  it is getting dry and chaulky.  It isnt designed to last forever.  When you torch it, you are re melting the surface and risk warping or melting the plastic. It can work as a temporary fix, but it will come back worse the next time.  There really is no great fix. Pledge and move on is pretty easy to make it look better, but its not a fix.
