Replacing bimini top straps with poles

Is there a reason that I should stay with straps on the bimini top or can I switch them over to poles? My boat uses straps front and rear and I'm getting tired of them snapping, particularly this last weekend when both front straps let go at the same time while cruising. Thank god the buddy's g/f was leaning forward in the back seat so she didn't get completely blasted when the top slammed back down. Also, where would be a good source to get said poles?
