Reflectors on new GMC truck

Is this some new DOT requirement or did the tailgate engineers get carried away???  

I could not tell if they had lights behind them or If they are just reflectors.

They've been doing that for a couple years now. It's for just in case the electrical meltdown is has in the middle of the freeway at night doesn't start a fire you can still see it and try to avoid crashing into it 

 
Interesting.  I wonder if cars will start doing this too....  most blinkers have reflectors built into them as well... 

 
Those are actually LED Lights. Just for visibility I believe.

They make a black out kit for them, plug and play. Just gotta remove the fender liner and unplug the original ones and plug in the new ones.

Gonna be ordering mine soon.

 
appears to be model specific, my 2023 doesn't have them

1500's don't have them but some canyons and HD's do
