so i sometime hear there are beefs between CHP and cops, is that true?  like what?

anyways if you were an off duty cop or CHP in a regular car and saw a bike go by at say 110-125 MPH on a wide open freeway, do you do nothing, do you call the force, or??  just curious

asking for a friend.........

Well....  I have a retired LAPD friend and he loathes the CHP...  he refers to them as rent a cops.

LAPD is the most hated force in the country, according to my 3 LAPD friends of varying levels. One Major Crimes, one Sargent, one patrol officer.

My dad ran the shooting qualification range for CHP and LASO for years and would hear both sides talk so much sh!t about one another.

Haha yeah, I've got a couple dude I know who are LAPD. They've been grinding that axe for decades!

From my wife (cop) they talk crap about CHP all the time but it's usually in good fun - good and bad apples on both sides.  She's got CHP friends that have helped me several times get off road stuff registered. vin verifications, etc.  She spent 7 years riding moto to / from work on the freeway and they know her well.  Now that she's in a car, they've given her a pass many times.  On the question of off duty and see bike go by at 125 mph....as long as you are only endangering yourself - do nothing.

I think it just depends on the person, I ran a Red LIght, in front of a CHP, called itweeks Metro, and itweeks talk to the CHP officer and he let me go,  itweeks said to me, we got lucky they will right there own mother a ticket,

Back in the day LAPD/CHP (in LA County) had a beef going. It's rumored CHP went to pull over an off duty LAPD and he didn't even slow down, just hung his badge out the window and kept driving. This played out a few times, pissing match back n forth with more instances and then they started to 'stake out' each others employee lots and write each other for BS things.

Its all about respect or as they say Professional Courtesy (that's what I was taught when I was a young cop)

As far as the bike, DO NOTHING!!!! Except maybe a call and NOT on 911. Again NOT on 911

I'd call 911 and let them decide.

I speed, you speed, we all speed.  But over 100mph, IN TRAFFIC, is a traffic hazard and an accident waiting to happen.

I call on drunks.

Theres has always been a rivarly I would say. Local PD, Sheriff's Department, Feds, etc. Just like the military, Marines, Air-force, Army, etc. There are some department to department differences/beefs, but that's with every profession.

I think the majority of off-duty LEOs wouldn't give two shits about someone flying past them on an open road/freeway. I know I sure wouldn't care and wouldn't waste my time calling it in. I'd be pissed if they crashed and caused a freeway closure when I'm on my way to Glamis or the Lake lol.

When your off your off... Yeah there are some odd balls that can't turn it off and I feel sorry for them. Sure, if there was a life threatening situation,  I would jump in and handle business.

Former LASD here. CHP is def. Different breed. Putting suspects u hook in the front seat with u no thanks. Most are what we call propeller heads (traffic guys). They do know their chit for TCs as most depts in the state use their forms for stolens and TC reports. I used to pawn my duis off on them and the more they got the better schedule they could bid for. Thanks for taking the paper. I never hated just wouldn’t do their job at all, not my cup of tea. Any no most cops don’t care off duty unless it’s costing them money or a piece of ass.

Back in the day, I was badge number 5 for an un-named city.

They were corrupt, and I decide to exit. (I even left the state as they seemed not liking me knowing what I knew)

Not that long ago, I was invited to a bachelor party, only to find the security was two homicide detectives. With guns. (Another un-named city)

Over a few beers, I could elaborate. (Whistle blowers seem to have single car accidents)

So anything I hear these days, may be true. Can't say, don't know.
