I am sure the situation would have been different 30 years ago,  people do not know how to think anymore, like robots behind the wheel

He has time to make a phone call,

But never pops the car into Neutral

and they are saying he is a hero,  it should have never gone this far,

He should be in jail for reckless driving

Neutral?

Key to the off position?  ....  You will still have steering and brakes, hard, but they will be there.  You better turn it only one click though....hard to steer when the wheel locks.

A foot under the pedal won't do anything in a "Fly by Wire" design as there is no cable.

Is it possible if the computer controls the transmission for the computer to NOT command the transmission to be put into neutral in a high speed situation like this? I'm not saying that what happened here, its just a thought because I don't know much about the on board computers.

I remember Toyota having a problem with the accelerator sticking in 2010 I believe it was. They recalled the cars for a throttle position sensor and the problem seemed to go away. If it happens to me I think I would do the switch to the first position and not to the lock and throw it in neutral, then hope for the best outcome.

dude's looking for a payday with Ford, my bet is they pull the PCM and find out he's full of chit just like the Prius guy(cop) in San Diego

Neutral should work.  I daily a manual, so N ALWAYS works via multiple methods.

Engine off with the push to start controls sometimes need extra fiddling to actually turn off.  Some require holding the button, others require multiple pushes.  Annoying, but best to find out with your car BEFORE an emergency which one it is.

To my knowledge, no one ever found out what the problem was besides 2 sets of floor mats stacked on the car that the CHP officer and his family were killed in. Toyota even hired Nasa.

My Colorado is like the Mustang he was driving, it has a control lever in the center, today when i had the truck pinned, it taps forward with no button right into neutral.

We are now praising stupid people,

I think he overpaid for that and car payments on the turd became unbearable. People are smarter than thou
