Things are looking up in Prescott!!! Looking for a pedal kayak to fish the local lakes and reservoirs. Not trying to break the bank and looking for advice.

Any duners here also kayak?

Suggestions welcome!

Hobie is the way to go!  Mirage drive with extended fins - think they are called turbo fins - they can fly.  They aren't cheap.  I would think you might find them used for faction of the price and it's a pretty simple unit.

Also depends on what you are using them for.  I've got a tandem - two of us on it and you can cruise for 15 miles in no time and not be tired.  They have specialty units set up for fishing etc.

You are welcome to come check out mine or borrow for a day of testing to see what you like or don't like.  The tandem is a big sucker - single unit is obviously smaller and easier to lug around.  Mine is the mirage oasis.

Looking for a single, ill set it up for lakes, may use in salt water once in a while but I have a boat for that.

Thank you for the offer! $2000+- is what I am seeing

hobie is one of the most popular pedal kayaks for a reason, they are good.  im still a classic paddle guy myself, but thats because im still torn on whether i want a hobie pa14 or if i want to jump in to a solo skiff.

hobies are nice, the pa is a super stable platform, for a little less you can get a different style.  ive never used old towns but have heard good things about them.  hobie is the only brand i can think of that you pedal forward and backward with your feet as opposed to the round way like a bicycle.  for me, i feel like the back and forth would be more comfortable than the bicycle style, but no experience with it to know for sure.

on the up side, if you do get the hobie and decide you dont like it, or it isnt what you want, they seem to hold their value really well.
