Other side of Gear One

Some of you may know Gear one is a part of Ayers Gear & Machine. Ayers Gear was started in 1985 and our slogan is "Keeping your company in motion since 1985". We focus on anything with a gear tooth, spline, or serration. Commercial, Mining, refuse, aerospace, defense, and one off work is what we do. We make gears from garbage trucks to manned space flight and everything in-between. I am super interested in what we do and I think some of you guys will be to, so I am going to post a few jobs we do here and there.

Here is a one off job we are about to finish for a company in Texas. The smaller helical still needs the key way machined and then it will be sent off to the heat treater. 
 

the larger of the two gears is roughly 10.25” od, 2.25” bore with a 1/2” key way. We made this gear out of pre heat treated 4140 with a hardness of about 30rc.

the smaller gear is just over 4” in diameter with a 2” bore and a 1/2” key way. We made this gear out of 8620 and we will be carburized and harden to 60rc.

What CMM you got? Currently thinking about upgrading to something newer in the near future.

I run a Zeiss Contura with the Calypso program.

I recommend an articulating head, if you're gonna play with one.

Nice that's a nice cmm, I really like the duramax from zeiss. Its a shop floor model, would still go in the inspection room. Duramax seems very well suited for our one off jobs. Also Zeiss has some of the best gear inspection software out right now.

Here is an aerospace shaft we do quite often. 
316 stainless. Here is a video of shaping the spline on our Mitsubishi cnc shaper. This job uses a custom shaper cutter for a missing tooth in the spline for timing. They are not complete still another operation on the mill.

Pinion shaft we just finished for a customer. Sample( on the left) broke and their equipment was down. OEM quoted them 16 weeks out we knocked this one out in 5 business days including heat treat.
