Be aware that Subaru has discontinued a few items mainly for the early 4 cam engine.  the most popular of all the Subaru engines out there.

#1  one of the cam gears has been discontinued (OEM plastic)

#2  a lot of the valve shim sizes have been discontinued

#3 left outer timing cover --this one is crazy, once they are gone what can you do if you have a bad cover?

the early 4 cam engine was circa 1995-1999

we are getting old, these are already 25 years old!!!

Bummer, are there aftermarket opportunities?

Damn. Good to know. We just picked up a Subi car. Hopefully it isn't that engine.

Dammit. My son just bought a Tatum Sand Demon with a Subie.

@John@Outfront My motor is the 1993-2002 Forrester 2.5 does it fall into that category?
1993-2003 is not correct

all ej 4 cam motors even the 2.0 jdm motors that had no AVCS up to 1999 with four cams--affected

SOHC from 2000 & on are not affected, nor could i see them being affected  for a long time because the SOHC was still built in the 2010+ range

so its not the Boxer 2.0 and 2.5?

I used to make Carbon fiber  and colored Fiberglass timing covers for them but no one wanted one for over 5 years so I tossed the mold last year, maybe I should have kept it ...
