Some may be aware, but Arizona will start requiring offroad training starting Jan 1, 2025 in order to register/renew your offroad registration. It's free and is found on the AZ MVD website. I just took it. It's a 10 minute-ish YouTube video followed by a 20 question test that gets saved to your AZMVD profile.

We had to do that on Utah's website before getting the OHV sticker for going to Sand Hollow in Utah. I assume more states will follow suit. It's all common sense stuff, but the reality is, there are a too many people that just have no idea. "stay on the trail, don't leave garbage, use your head"

Arifornia…?
Arizonifornia?

I wonder how long before California does something similar.
They're in process now. A number of politicians have approached off road orgs to sponsor a bill.

I'm not a fan...

But I also see waaaaay too much idiocy out there these days. Always been rookies in a group, rarely has there been entire groups of rookies.

So, dunno.

@Mac: was the course educational/helpful for the rookies?

In a word...no

It was what you'd expect from a government training video.

Years ago I did the ATV safety course with my kids. While we had been riding for years, at least that was hands on. I see something like that useful as it requires effort and a lot of people would rather give up than complete it. That could weed out some shitheads.

I have always been a supporter of every boat/jet ski operator has to have a license.

You have to have a gun safety course.

Off road license, im ok with it. Glamis will have a full customs check point for all yore PAPERS!!!

Remember, you have to have a fishing license...........................and the rangers are ALWAYS asking for it.

Talk about a state cash cow fund, maybe it could fund the schools, oh yea, the lottery was used to fund schools!!!!!

People need way more than this. The SXS owners at least; holy hell there are some crazy roll overs. We came across one on Vets weekend where the dude rolled on the high side and was pointed 180 degrees from the rest of his group. No clue how they pulled it off lol.

Edit: best part of the video is no flashing lights (e.g. chase lights) on cars! So annoying when you're behind them.

Seen that before too with a rookie guy - after the third time the cage touched sand in 24hrs we told him to park it and go back to hardpack

In California, I think this will be insurance driven more so than DMV.

I know of one guy who's been putting together a test area for just this type of testing and certification.

That actually makes sense. Kinda like taking the MSF course for your moto license which helps out with yore insurance.

i remember back in 90 when i bought a new banshee, and had to take a course, i think we got 50.00 or something else can't remember.
it was in an open field with no bumps or anything lol. lasted about an hour. I bought 3 bikes and took it 3 times just to get the checks.

While I'm for the concept )there seems like there are too many idiots out on the trails) but allowing the Government to implement it is the problem. Like most laws the people writing and enacting them typically have no first hand experience with the subject matter.

Does it apply to a full Az street plated Rzr?
My renewal was due this month so I simply renewed my street plate & OHV sticker without any other requirements.
my sandcar is too heavy for offroad registration, i pay for full pop street registration.
Lol, my frp manx car is California plated. 😎
