So adding a toilet and a sink in my bathroom. They just started digging and running water and sewer pipe. Decided it might be a good idea to add a urinal.
How hard is it to install?

What have you installed?

Do I want the kind that I need to flush or I think it’s called gravity fed.

Is a PTrap needed?

Should I say eff it and just have the toilet.

do you have boys?

our good friend is a builder and they did this in their house, had 3 boys, said it was the best thing they ever did lol.

GF said no. She said it will look like a public restroom 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have 2 boys and garage restroom would be used for gatherings.

I think it’s a great idea.  GF thinks other wise.

P trap is always needed to keep sewer gases from entering the home.

If I had a barn/garage or outdoor bathroom setup. I'd have one installed.

DO NOT PUT THE WATERLESS ones in.....they are HORRIBLE.....

Find one of these vintage ones...Made for women....with dresses....

Outside pool or garage bathroom?

No brainer...DO IT.

I want one in my garage...

My buddy the plumber put one in his shop, his girlfriend/ now wife thought it was the greatest thing ever.

No more greasy hands or feet from the shop in the house, toilet seat position no longer an issue.  I agree with her though if you put it in the restroom where guests will be using it that will make it look like a public restroom.  So either keep it in the boys bathroom or in the garage/ shop.  If you do put it in the boys restroom make it so the toilet has a seperate room for the toilet.

Not making a new room for restroom. Using what I have. Did some measuring and adding a urinal although small makes everything cramped up. Would have to make door smaller or move it which consists of breaking / adding stucco. Gonna have to make more measurements tonight.

Building myself a new house, I added one in the garage next to the garage sink just because why not. I can’t see it costing more then $1,000 said and done.444308D1-EB83-413F-9E2B-87238DFE23F2.jpeg

If its a garage bathroom I say send it, would be way more convenient. Inside bathroom, yeah seems kinda trashy.

I've roughed in and installed several urinals in residential homes over the years. Providing you have a 2" sanitary sewer line nearby and at least a 3/4" cold water line available, its not all that difficult. Like others are suggesting, stay away from waterless.

My suggestion would be to go with a Sloan 186 1 pint flush valve and a Kohler 5024 urinal. The trap will be exposed below so you have options on how to rough, rather than being concealed. (Assuming you're installing in a garage). There's also Keg urinals out there. Something a little different and cool for a garage.

Plenty of YouTube stuff out there if you're a do it yourself kinda guy

This will be in a bathroom in a garage. Not a stand alone urinal. GF said it would look ugly. She would be for it if the restroom was bigger and can have a place for it behind a wall or something.

Did some measurements last night and the space I’m using a very very small so a urinal although not to wide would take up space.

I would rather have a nice looking restroom then a urinal. I did ask my plumber to cap off a water line and a sewer line at a wall the the other side is outside. I can place urinal here and make some sort of room. This is better then inside the bathroom as now both can be used.

Thanks everyone for your input.
