This one is going to be a bit of a Journey...
This engine came to me for a CAM change and some better heads from a good buddy
But I dug in and a few cylinders were low on compression -
I opened up the engine and found the "build" was not great even though the builder says he is one of the top shops in LA COUNTY with articles in Hot Rod etc.. well noit here to bash anyone, but for those who want to see what bad work can do .. look below
Anyway 4x the recommend Piston to wall clearance, this thing was pushing oil and compression into the crankcase - not that noticeable driving it, except in the power area, car never made the power it should have. also lots of contaminates in the bearings, and lack of Oil on the bearings (just a couple seasons on the engine)
Sloppy work like grinding down the rod bolts rather than clearance-ing the block
and the owner paid for ARP 2000 rods and got 8740 rod bolts - they handle way less power
Bearings are typical of poor oiling andf dirt in assy
We are starting from almost scratch -
Block is good - but at the limit to bore after sonic testing everything else except the crank is getting tossed
So is full darton dry sleeve time - Going to 4.125 Bore on LS3 for 427 in with a 4.0 Stroke

This one will be a 427 built for boost, 2.8 Kenne Bell SC, Ported and softened PRC heads, a very proven SC cam (with great manners) looking at 11lbs boost on 91 and 16lbs on e85 (flex fuel) with no pulley changes and hopefully 4 digit Crank HP!
I was lucky to get all the parts in and balance on Tuesday - then the fun begins
should be dyno'd and set for e85 and big numbers ... and ready for Halloween (I hope)
Way more Pics coming
