I am looking at putting a mini split in my Pool / guest room. What did you spend? What is entailed in the costs? I just got quoted 5K for it installed 15K BTU. I was originally thinking $2500 to 3K. Anyone share their thoughts?

I installed on in my garage by myself a few years ago, really easy to do if you have half a clue or phone a AC friend.  I paid under 2k for 15k with heat strip for cold winters here in AZ.

18K BTU with flush mount ceiling cassette self installed about a year ago for $1600. All the parts come with the unit. Only special tools would be a vacuum pump and a gauge set.

Did a 12K, got it for $900 for a Daikin

@HTElectrical installed it,  but i had the wiring in the wall on both side for install on my garage build,  $2500 should be the correct with installation,

Did an 18k in my main room a couple years ago.  Like $1200 and a buddy and I installed it.

Wish I would've done it way sooner.

Mr. Cool caters to DIY installs. Mitsubishi and daikin seem to be the highest quality brands. You can save money by going with air conditioning only instead of also buying a heatpump.

look up mrminisplitunits.com

he just opened up in my town and i've heard nothing but good about his product line.

i can always go by and visit if you need me to, he's like 10 mins from me and has really good pricing

I did a two ton install in my garage and it is awesome but I have some hvac experience.  The Mr cool ones seem to be great for novices with precharged line sets that are flexible.

Look up the DIY HVAC guy on utube... he shares allot of so-called secrets and takes you step by step thru several installs.  I see guys advertising on craigs and marketplace for $400 for simple straight forward installs plus the unit which are priced competitively and incidentals and they usually have a big selection but allot of odd brands.

Just so you know, generally the 115v units are one ton or 12k or below so depending on what you have available for wiring really simplifies that part if that meets your needs.  The higher voltage ones are usually a little cheaper size for size and generally a little more efficient and might last longer.   Sizing a unit runs allot smaller than ducted systems especially if you only need it for a/c as they are not nearly as efficient at heating just like any heat pump.

They make AC / DC mini splits and with about 6 to 8 solar panels you can have it run all day during the day light hours. I’ve been planning a setup for a bit but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Cool part is it can run on solar during the day and regular 110 at night if you want. Lots of options out there.
