Does anybody make an aftermarket Cat that is smog legal in CA ?  I have an 09 E350 with the dreaded Check Engine light and need to replace the cats. Car runs perfect but the parts are more expensive than the car and not available. Any help is much appreciated.

Contact the smog referee. Let them know you cant get the part thru Mercedes and they will give you a list of approved CARB approved models that will work. You then buy on open market and install... You then get a referee inspection where they poyt a bar code on the vehicle for smog

Had to do it with my daughters Honda since Honda didnt have thereplacements

Magnaflo shows a couple  need to know your engine family number sir.  

I know you are upset with the process, but I'm just trying to help you get thru this claim....You can yell at me all you want, it's not going to change the fact that I'm here to help you and if we work together we can get this resolved for you. NO sir, I do not think my Mother was ever in that line of work.

Order an epa approved (non California approved/minus carb number) from the internet. It likely will only be shipped to AZ or NV. Did this for my mothers Toyota Matrix ($150 vs $1400) from dealer. No engine lights no issues passing smog. The reason they are so expensive is the carb cert $$$ testing they must go through. 
 

technically, the smog shop is suppose to verify the cat is OEM or carb number if a replacement but I’ve rarely heard of this happening nor did it with my mothers smog.
