My son (26) has his first dirt bike, a 250 and was learning how to ride. My Mom's in Rialto was perfect as it is flat mostly, a little rocky here n' there. I ran the RZR behind him. Good times.

That's awesome.

My boys want to switch to 2 Wheelers as well, I'm thinking a modern 250 4-stroke is the perfect fit as well. Great idea going to dirt, where you did - sand is for the experienced rider no doubt.

Congrats. I've been waiting my sons entire life to get him riding. He's 33 now so I pretty much gave up. Guess it's time for you to get another bike now.

If they are going to ride in the Dunes, the 250 won't last, trust me.  But a great compromise is a 350, we have a few in our group on kids under 160lbs, they rock them.  Bigger boys are all on 450's.  We had 22 bikes in our group last weekend, they were fun to watch battling thru the dunes, 3 wide at times.

I agree. My son is 145lbs. I had that 310cc Husky and it did fine in the dunes at 170lbs. We'll see, he's going to have to wind her out to move in the sand for sure.

We moved to Az in 81’ I was 6 my dad took me and the truck and we drove to corona somewhere and he bought a xr500 and my first xr80. We stopped at the wash that runs between Hemet and San Jacinto mtn. He put me in the wash and said go. If you can ride in the sand you can ride anywhere. I believe he was right. People try to fight the bike. In the sand you gotta dance with the bike and let it lead!!!

My middle son has only ridden a two wheeler in the sand, got him off a quad at 15 yr old.  He has never ridden hard pack ever.  Not has hard as people think it is.  Get behind some good leaders to learn.

I grew up in rialto, parents lived in the country club I used to take my quad through the golf course and ride in the wash.  Fun times.,

Yeah, ... and if you're behind my parents house you can off-road to Glen Helen. Broke into the short course a few times with my RZR. Was considering renting it and having a friendly race there.
