One of my clients needs to build a bridge over a wash out in the city of cave creek. Apparently they are saying two rail cars side by side will work. I guess these things are 89 ft long. Anyone out there with the railroad or know someone. A flatbed car would work or even something that has the top could be cut off. It has to be able to carry a 50,000 lb fire truck which apparently these things have a couple hundred thousand pound rating.

You want flat cars box cars do not have enough strength for a bridge most of their support comes from the walls. We used to put them in all the time back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. You might do a search we used to get them from ad n out fit in Nor Cal just do not remember their name.

Let me know if you think of that name. We know we might have to find something out of state not too far away. Not sure what it would take to haul one on an 18-wheeler.

They just put one in on a project that I'm grading in Nor CA.  I'll get the number.  Google rail car bridge and a bunch of bridge companies will pop up.  It's a somewhat involved ordeal as it usually requires a concrete footing at each end as well as a large crane to set in place.

This seemed pretty interesting so I did google it, here's a short and sweet YouTube, the engineer breaks down the basic costs about the 2:10 mark. says they saved $30k going this route, mentioned something about a center beam rail bridge. If you do end up doing this I would love to check it out, I live in carefree area.

If it gets done the wash getting crossed is at 26th st and Saddle Mountain. Cool vid!!

Caltrans can do it, just put some 3ft plastic drain pipe in there and cover it in sand..... it worked for the 10 didn't it?
