I know we are solidly in the middle of Dune season, but I was wondering if anyone else here does long range or competitive type of shooting of any type?

Ive done a bunch of shotgun, handgun & 22LR stuff, but Ive always wanted to do some longer range shooting.  @punkur67 has helped me build a gun & Ive gone up to Pala a few times to watch him shoot competitively with the PRS.

Seems like there are bound to be a bunch of other folks here that shoot clays, or hunt or maybe handgun stuff.

if you shoot competitively, list here what org you shoot.  Im going to give the PRS stuff a go & see how much I can suck.

If you hunt, list here where you hunt & what for.

If you dont want to admit to anything, just get another T&T & see if reruns of desperate housewives is on.

I shoot the following

Rifle comps:

- PRS matches

- NRL hunter matches

- PRS style matches with San Diego precision rifle club, CTA, Burbank rifle and Revolver club, and some other clubs

- I plan to shoot some pistol matches at Pala this year with LDF who is affiliated with USPSA

- Dove hunt with shotgun

- Duck hunt with shotgun

- Deer hunt with rifle and shotgun

- Elk hunt with rifle

- Hog hunt with rifle

We go plink at a secret spot out east.  Usually mix with partying.

A buddy has private property access in east county he does trainings at, but I procrastinate and don't go as often as I should.  It has a couple steel targets out to 500m but we mostly do CQ drill stuff and pistol.

Interesting.  I would have thought that there would be more folks.

I’ve never shot a gun in my life but I have a friend that has a private range stocked with children’s toys he gets from garage sales and second hand stores. He loves a head shot on a Barbie at 100 yards.

I, err, he uses everything from .22 handguns to AKs to take out action figures in fortified positions.

He gave up hunting roughly three years ago.

Just went last night to a private range in Huntington Beach. This place is insane! Not only a nice range, but it has a great restaurant with a full bar, cigar lounge, whiskey bar, sells guns, etc. I highly recommend going if you can. Totally exceeded my expectations.

heard lots of great things about this place, maybe we need to put together a GD get together. We used to do BBQ's and meet ups like taco Tuesday all the time, this would be a good one

Not a lot of places near me to shoot at distance without paying a higher price. I was a limited member at west end gun club and had access to only the 100 yard range. They had up to 600 meters for higher members but I wasn't paying the higher cost. I am fine plinking at 100 yards.

@Fireballsocal, Pala aint that far from you.  ~860 yards @ the furthest point.

Just under 80 miles. I have west end, lytle creek, route 66, and a handful of indoor ranges close by. Hodge road for when I want to gamble with my life. I would never make it out to Pala unfortunately. I stick with plinking. Lots of fun even though I'll never be a Chris Kyle.

no-one will ever be Chris Kyle, but its fun for this Squid to almost, kinda, sorta, play in his arena for a bit.

Yeah, pretty crazy. Forgot to mention there's a tequila bar also. Seriously though, I knew this place would be nice, and I'm not the easiest guy to impress, but this place blew away my expectations. The pictures online do it no justice at all. Whoever built this place dumped a ton of money into it. It seems like a fun pet project for a dude with eff u money just wanted a cool place to shoot, hang out, eat , drink, smoke, and show off a bunch of cool stuff even if it would never pay for itself. The memberships aren't exactly cheap, but if I can't imagine a cooler place to hang indoors in California if you're into shooting. Long guns are allowed too btw.
