Hey guys I have an early 2000’s Playtech a arm car with a 4.3 and an 091 that I just put a charlynn on for the season. Took the car out to glamis this past weekend and it kicked ass. The only gripe I have is with my power steering reservoir. I have the reservoir and filter from Kartek and it doesn’t matter what level I fill the reservoir to it leaks like crazy out of the cap. I am confident the system is bled and is not cavitating, the cap is not drilled for the pressure relief. Has anyone come across this issue with their car?

TIA

Need to put the mesh/sponge stuff in the reservoir.  I am sure Kartek has it, I have no idea what it is called, but you must have it or the cap will leak.

They all leak. I've bought cheap one and expensive ones. They all will get a ring of sand around the cap. If I remember correctly, my Howe unit has a piece of foam on the tank. That helped but.......it would still leak.

Mine looks something like this & it never leaks a drop.  its only filled about 2/3 the way up & its located up near the radiator.  the cap screws on instead of cams on like an old GM cap does.

I updated my initial post with a photo of my reservoir. My cap screws on also. I did just notice that the o ring in the cap is very small in gauge diameter. Maybe that’s his problem.🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought mine was a gaskets, but its a super thin oring, that sits on the very top of the reservoir.

And I over exaggerated a bit.....  there is a small ring of sand around the base of the cap after 3 or 4 trips, but not hardly anything.  I turn the cap up half way and wipe off the sand with a rag and turn it back down tight.

I know it would be a pain, but maybe moving it forward so it's not getting shook like a Polaroid picture...

Are you using power steering oil or atf? ATF will foam up and P/S fluid is designed not to.

Upon deeper investigation it looks like the groove in the cap was machined too deep for the o-ring and it is not making a mouth contact with the housing to seal properly.
