I'm confused. How did he win? Did the game end or something? (Ran out of blocks) I never played it that much.

I tried to find the story on our local news station (kusi) they explained that when the game gets to the end it runs out of memory and and just stops running. I guess it was very common for the older games. They knew it would happen because they beat thw game with AI and proved it. This kid did it for real.
If somone has IG or FB or some other social media, look up "kusi news san diego" and see if the story is there.

The explanation was due to the limitations of the scoreboard. Basically crashes in a pause type of way. They never expected anyone to play it past 999,999 score. I remember playing it back in the day and it sure gets hard quick.
