June 14, Flag Day...show em!

I used to make a point to swap it out every July 4th with my step daughter.  She was in Navy ROTC in high school so the flag meant more to her than the average teenager..

She quit coming around once she grew up...so I kinda got lazy about it and they would get tattered before I would swap it out.  This year, one of my neighbors noticed it and anonymously gifted us a new one.  Went up within minutes of me seeing it on the patio table!

@Kraut_n_Rice That's cool!

a few years ago, my neighbor, Linda across the street had a tattered and worn flag. She's older and at the point of this story she was in upper 70's, husband had passed and her kids didn't come around too often at that point.

It was Memorial weekend and I got her a new Flag from Costco. Thinking it would just slip in the existing mount was very hopeful on my part...but, it didn't. Now I didn't want to tell her and luckily The Costco flag came with it's own holder.

So it was around 11 pm before Memorial Day and I'm going across the street with my ladder and 18v drill and some hardware hoping i wouldn't wake her up and scare her. I take down the old one and put up the new in less than 5 minutes. WHEW!!!

Now about 3 weeks had gone by, and Linda calls me all perplexed as she has a question to ask.

"Dale, I don't know who put up my new flag...I asked my 3 boys, they didn't do it...I don't know if Tim next door might have done it...or his son! Have you talked to him, do you know anything?"

I just smiled and said I did it right before Memorial day and that neighbor Doug #1 and neighbor Doug #2 and I had this idea and I thought it would be fun to surprise you...well...you have a new flag.

We all love you...enjoy!

She started crying... :biggrin:

I just gave her a big hug!

It was awesome.
