I have heard and read that an infrared light or black light can be used at night to look for scorpions as the light makes them glow.

Not sure if infrared and black light is the same.

My question is can I use any infrared light to look for scorpions or does it have to be a certain wattage?

 Thanks in advance.

I think both will make a scorpion glow but you definitely want a UV light like posted above. I have one similar it was around 15 bucks. If i was able to test it first, i would have spent a little bit more for a brighter one.

Infrared would also work but not with the human eye like the UV flashlight does. A lot of the security cameras use infrared as a form of cheap night vision.

Ive got a camera under my trailer to spot for mice activity. This is what a tiny spider looks like using the infrared mode on the camera. In person you dont see any of that glow.

Amazon black light very kid in camp has them and you can drive around in washes or by the canal and see them while driving at night

The infrared will allow your camera to see motion in very low light.  It will not make a scorpion glow like UV.

I hear ya. Both will glow since the OP was asking the difference. Even though youre right the correct answer is UV.

UV glows to the naked human eye.

Infrared glows to the camera lens.

This is cool. Especially scorpion hunting with the kids. Great idea
The kids have a blast doing it plus it makes them aware of the critters in the desert.

We camp near the canal.

Every night we hunt scorpions 🦂 .

Every morning we police camp for snake tracks also and usually find some.

Thanks for the great responses. This is what I have.

Will also buy the one Kraut_n_Rice mentioned. Maybe it’s more powerful since it’s double the price.
