Thw "I need my radiator fixed" thread in the tech section got me to thinking about all of the folks here that do these kinds (and other) services.

It would be cool to have one thread with a list of the board members names, locations, and contact info.  Maybe stared for the site sponsors?

Edit: sorry if I was not clear, I meant buggy related businesses... Radiators, wiring, trans, engines, even things like truck/rv repair, solar...   this way if someone had needed a radiator repaired they could go into one thread and look up the site sponsors for those things and the other folks rhat are not sponsors, but also perform those functions.  NO one gives a crap-o-la that I make instruments that measure air pollution....

Did I miss something? Been looking to introduce myself. Where's the bonfire? Peace

Didn’t we used to have an “explain your username/handle” thread back in the good ol days before the crash? Seems I recall it being part bonfire part dumpster fire.🤪

Be nice if people took the time to post tech threads.  I've never once logged into this forum hoping to find out why the world is ending, what to do about clean air, the latest gun laws, or any/all of the gawtdamn youtube videos people post.  Stop. Please.  What happened to original content?  Post what YOU are doing in your garage, not some effing video of someone else doing a job.

AMEN!

But not............ awoman!

:lmao:

:bag:

Good idea ,however a business sponsor might need to rethink his support. Just thinking out loud.

FWIW I am not speaking for myself as I am a lifer in support of this site
that is one of my concerns.

it just seems like every time someone asks for help there are a bunch of "talk with "Jim", he will fix you up" responses & having them all in one place seems logical...

Let me add my 2 cents to answer your question... This site is helped run by Sponsors and the support they have given GD.com.  If you open the door even a little it will be over ran with people looking to push there services or businesses and that in return will effect our loyal relationship with the paying Sponsor. The looking for a ??? thread has served quite well without stepping on toes.

The first place people should look should be here

https://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/index.php?/prefsponsors.html/sponsors/

and see if we have a Sponsor for what they are looking for to help support them and the site

If my memory serves me there was a site as you described and well we know how that ended. GD has never been a tech only site. There are more then enough places for every aspect of this sport to post in. The biggest flaw in 'The Other site" was it was boring, one dimensional and had no variety. GD is a virtual Campfire and nobody wants to sit and talk tech all day and night around the camp fire. But yes it would be nice if members shared more of the tech information and started new threads

Fwiw I stopped contributing to tech threads because they always end up with a board sponsor peddling their own product or arguing that their way is the only way to do something. It really does turn off a lot of people that I talk to.

I'm also hesitant to start a new build thread for the new 4 seater 1 3/4 x .120 chromo car we're building, I just don't need to hear the same 5 board members tell me why I should have done it this way or that.

One of these days but not right now.

This opinion is a bit surprising for me here.  Other platforms, sure.  This isn't AR15.com..

For instance, what John and I offer have a bunch of similarities, but different enough that we don't really "compete" per se..  Sure, we could argue back and forth whos platform is better, but that really doesn't help anyone.  In reality, each of us has reached out to the other at various times when what we were dealing with wasn't quite in our wheelhouse. John has my cell number as do I his.   Same goes for Jason Alper.  I have one of his engines in a street ride of mine.

GD.com is a community.  That is why I support it.  The "service" I provide as a vendor is 100% a side gig for me.  Most months my vendor dues exceed any money I might make.  Being honest, I might spend 40 hours a month on the phone just helping peeps fix their chit.  Doesn't net me a dime.  But, I love this sport.

And, it's why you see my number openly right down there.

VVVVVVVVV

Well when you post a photo of your ride to try and help another board member out, and a sponsor comes in right behind and tells everyone that is a good example of how not to do something, that doesn't exactly give me any warm fuzzy feelings of brotherhood. Instead that is a kick to the nutsack. Funny thing is, when I posted more photos and called him out on it he went silent and the thread went into the depths.

The truth is there are a lot of very talented people out there who don't post here because of shenanigans like that. It gets me fired up just thinking about the incident. That is chit that no one can talk their way out of.

But ok in the spirit of good sportsmanship I'll start a build thread in sand rail stuff and post a pic or two.

The environment today is tech is boring and not exciting. Bunch of squirrels here. Controversy keeps attention
