well I don't have a HOA and my neighbor bought two goats and a rooster so now it looks like tijuana every time I drive up my driveway.......

 
Haha, 30 years in real estate and I have seen it all. But ..........................................  You sign up for it when you buy into an HOA. Oh wait, Did you read the HOA package when you bought?  :toofunny:

Some are bad and some are worse. I will say if you have bad or messy neighbors without one you will be even more miserable. Get involved and don’t be afraid to fight them. 

 
I don’t have an HOA but my neighbor decided to rip out all their lawn and concrete their whole front yard. Now they park 3 vehicles directly in front of their house. Really classy move. 

 
We live in a newer neighborhood and our HOA board spends more time arguing among themselves than being neighborhood Nazi's. 

I think it's a good thing.

 
You have to get approval for ANYTHING you do to your home. REALLY? EFF HOA's. Peace

 
I have a half acre lot in an HOA…. “Sorry, you can’t put in RV parking next to your house, your HOA doesn’t allow it sir.” Guess I missed that one in the 1000 of CC&r’s

 
Quick story(jk) 

Last and final HOA I lived in, I had my motorhome that I rented out just about every weekend we weren’t using it. So every Thursday evening I would get it from storage and have it in front of the house for Friday am departure. It would come back on Sunday and be put back in storage early am mondays. We’ll I get a notice and let them know we use it all the time and it’s just there for loading up for the weekend. “We’ll, the Karen comes around every other Friday morning and it’s out there”. Yes, we use it. Ok,she says. Next month I receive a $25 first fine. I call and she says well, sorry the rules state that you can’t park an rv in the neighborhood unless loading or unloading(24hours). I said yeah and what’s the problem? Well she comes around every other Friday morning and it’s out there. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. She continues to tell me it will be the $25 for first warning and $50/month for every other. Ding!  I said $50/month fine if my motorhome is out there? Yep,she says. Ok well, just go ahead and send me the fine every month and I’ll cancel my storage that’s $100/month.  Radio silence ,, sir you can’t do that! Why not? And if not what are the effin rules? Don’t remember how it ended but I never got a fine and sold the house.

city code enforcement came by one day and said we gotta a call that the motor home in the drive way was being lived in. We said no. Feel free to check. He said no worries. “We all of sudden got a bunch of calls in this neighborhood of people living in their mohos and trailers in the driveway”. 🤔. Found out a neighbor called and wanted everyone to move their stuff as he was trying to sell his house. Code enforcement said- “so you guys go to the dunes”!  He said no issue here. Sorry to bother you. Have a good day.

 
Code enforcement is only as strong as the enforcer. I know. We tried to have a situation corrected and it failed due to lack of those who enforce the rules. Now I have a storage facility next door. Our fault as well because we didn't continue to push as we do have to live next door. Regret it now though.

 
President of our hoa stopped by one evening. Lives 4 doors down from me. Mountain community and every ones on 2+ acres. Says she got a complaint that someone was living in my Toy Hauler. I tell her no. No ones living in it. You can check for yourself. She then says we aren't allowed to have it stored on our property period.

Which is total BS. We bought our place because we could keep our TH stored here.

I told her to show me were it says that it the bylaws. She didn't have them with her so I go grab my copy and show her. Dumb founded she agrees that I'm within my rights of the bylaws. She then changes her story and says neighbors are complaining about were I park it and asks if I could move it up next to my house were the previous owner kept theirs.  No. I'll park it were ever I want. GTFO.  And if you bother me again I'll find every violation I can in our neighborhood and make her life a real pain in the ass. Mind your own business.

Wife decided to join/run for the board. Started as secretary. Made that bitches life hell. Then the wife got nominated for VP. Neighbors loved my wife. Hated the President.

Wife did here term as VP and the president quit because she couldn't just make up rules anymore.

 
My mom lived in one where the "enforcement" officer for the HOA was a retired lady who would walk her dog every morning and write violations every afternoon. 

Trash cans out a day early, violation, Trash cans out a day late, violation. car parked on the street overnight, violation weeds in the grass, violation. 

One time the houses in my mom's cul-a-sac got TP'd by some kids. My mom found out because the lady sent a e-mail saying if it wasn't cleaned up immediately they would send someone to do it and charge her.  She hadn't even finished her coffee.

 
Your HOA Karens and ticket writers would have a heart attack here. RV’s parked where ever when people are visiting. Horses and steers that have the run of the place, all the way to the road. A dog making democrat statues on the drive. Unleashed deer eating my non compliant lawn.
