Went up to the Rim today to scout out the snow pack and a possible campsite for our trip in 2 weeks. I could not believe the amount of snow on the ground once we got to the Rim, there must have been 2+ feet still on the ground near forest lakes.

the gates to all the lakes were still closed and for good reason. We took the back road in from Heber and holy hell is snow a different beast when it comes to riding. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time, it was amazing seeing all the creeks and dry washes flowing and hopefully it means we can get a reprieve from the fire season.

Yes snow is quite an unexpected experience for us desert dwellers.  I almost found out the hard way how dangerous snow and ice can be last year on the ridgeline of Montana Mountain on the Queen Valley loop.

Steering is….um not really the same to put it mildly

Riding in snow is a blast. It's not a if I get stuck, it's how many times. Winch is mandatory.

Here's some pics of a ride a few years ago near where we live.

Love me some red onion! We ended up stopping in Christopher Creek for lunch this trip.
