Have you ever found yourself NOT excited for Glamis season?

That's where I'm at now...I know...sounds crazy.

I wanted to update my car last year...COVID took care of that idea and same thing this summer.  I reached a point where I can't find parts, can't find a fabricator or materials.  It's just taking the life and excitement out of this for me.

Now include that I sold my toy hauler and refuse to pay COVID prices for a box trailer and moho.  I guess it comes down to choices and decisions.

Lastly, I've lived my life with my hair on fire and now that I've moved out of CA to a small town, life is so mellow and carefree.  It's weird like I don't need the outlet and rush of the dunes right now.  That all might change in a month or two.

Anyone else ever reach this point in life?

I see your point....but really.  My swampcooler gets shut off at about 6a (when I wake up).  It is not even August yet.

You are supposed to be headed for the water right now.  Don't fret over it until mid, or late September.

I'm one the water every week, no worries on that.

But there is just no way to get "there" from "here" with lack of parts and such right now.

Mac - I can help you with your car.  I'm still going back and forth to So Cal weekly (unfortunately), so I can grab materials (if available, of course) and I am willing to help you out if you'd like.

I do get what you're saying though....my desire to rush around has dropped some too.  I'm more content since the move to just go whenever it is convenient.  I'mnot as excited to rush into and thrash for a trip!

Never, Although some of my choices made for some lack luster seasons  the last few years.   Last year all of my favorite trips of the year got screwed up. Vets, I broke. Christmas/ New Years , didn't work out so well to be able to take the time I wanted off and Golf was cancelled.

This year I am looking forward to a good year though. With the new X3 it will be fun but work will make it hard for me to get out any earlier than Thur night and driving the 78 at night just doesn't work for me any more. So it will be Friday mornings thru Sunday. Maybe this year I will just change it up and leave later on Sunday IDK.

Funny this was I was just going to shoot you a message saying you better get to work on looking for something or you will be sitting on the sidelines watching.

Trust me those first couple trips when everybody is showing up and things are going good and your not there are the hard ones to miss. When it's rain and wind and broken toys and people don't leave camp until Saturday afternoon those are the easy ones to say, dodged that bullet.

Appreciate it!

Fox is months out on shocks.  Jet Trim is months out on seats.

I had my fab guy lined up to do a dash, windshield and body on my car.  He simply can't get to it.

I fear once I get the new computer installed, I'll be waiting to get an appt with DuneHoon to get it tuned.

That still doesn't solve my trailer and moho problem...

You have issues!!   I've always heard that about you, LOL!!

The summer plans/work to be ready for the winter season have been stressful. Its disheartening to say the least on how slow things are to get done.  I feel yore pain and if I had the opportunity to stop and put back I would but I'm in toooooo deep to turn back.  You still have a complete car. You can still reel in and not go crazy with the car.

On the rv plans I get it. You have taken on some serious work at the new place and I honestly would keep that focus and get it done. Glamis isnt going anywhere.

Only things left now are the pool and backyard.  They break ground in 2 weeks.

I'll buy a trailer and if I have to, I'll air mattress it for a season.  Stef won't come but I can make it work for a few trips.  I'm just not going to buy a moho knowing once all the COVID spending stops, I'll be upside down tens of thousands.

Yes, I went through that. I am taking break from off road for awhile.

I was at that point last month.  Spent about 100 hours prepping all the toys to take to St. Anthony's and the F'n DAY before we were supposed to leave, both of my kids said they didn't want to go.  50% of the reason we were going was because they wanted to go.  Wife and I went anyway and had a great (better) time.  No teenagers to deal with......  🙂

The truth is Glamis is always there.

Would you be happy with another toy for the season if the car isn't ready?

What toy would fill in that gap and not disappoint you (too much). Could you buy something, then flip it later if needed?

The fact that your already questioning this gives you yore answer, don't worry about when the season for you starts.

You like yore stuff dialed in, anything less then that makes you unhappy. Yore car not dialed in will frustrate you, some toy for the season not dialed in to yore liking or standards will frustrate you.

It stings the first few big weekends missed and Vets hurts bad to miss. Ask me how I know LOL. I'm not excited about much these days, simply because there is a ton of changes in the works and I'm burned out keeping the candle lit at both ends.

I can snap out of my funk and become the hero - make awesome things happen for my family or keep treading water and just survive.

Get out of yore funk and getr done dude. The season is just around the corner :poke:

Don't be like Crusty and miss another season...

Mac,

I get what you are saying.....we run soo hard for sooo long its strange to step back.

I can't wait to be at a point in my life where I am living remote (not in so cal) with the rat race mentality behind me. I never wish time away BUT after my youngest is done with High School ,,,,,major changes for me. I wanna spend my time off the beaten path and live out the rest of my days doing the things I wanna do.......... The world right now is messed up.......sense of purpose and clarity are not too great. It feels like bizaro world out there.

Get a nice box trailer now with a fuel station and a shower / toilet....THAT is all you need. Camping in my 24 foot trailer without all the BS is the BEST!!!!!!

:poule:

Who cares if you miss a season because you’re enjoying life? That’s what life is about. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and variety is the spice of life.
Put the season on hold and you will be antsy for the following. I missed most of last season because of similar things and it was all good. I have another kid being born right at the first hallowen trip, so I might miss some of this year also. All good. That’s what life is about. Enjoy it my friend.

the only reason i went to glamis last season was to see some people that i care about when they are out there. i have lots of plans with my car and will be starting back on that project in the next couple months. it MIGHT be ready for the 2022 season, but materials and parts shortages may effect that goal. sold my toyhauler as well and never going back to a toyhauler. im not above "tenting" it, but i am working on some other ideas for a much simpler, stress free way of camping and possibly taking my junk to the dunes.

for now i enjoy doing whatever the Eff i want, whenever i want.

Mac,

Totally get it.. lemme give you my last season's sob story. I plan to make a thread but here's the gist...

Went to KOH in February and just brought my 2014 RZR as I didn't have a 2nd person to drive my Suburban and tow the new one on the flatbed and also had a Shock Therapy appointment that took 4 months to get for the new one in Glamis the following week and didn't want to risk breaking something and missing the appointment/trip.

Well out at KOH driving with a buddy shotgun about 15+ miles from Hammertown near the bombing range, darn car just stalls. We wave off 1 of only 2 people who drove by and got out. Next I see ALL of the oil on the ground and all over the pan. Turns out at some point I'd put a crack in the bottom of the engine case (which you couldn't see with the skid plate), all the oil ran out and the 2014 motor was toast. Luckily a guy in a small Jeep Liberty 4x4,.. I think rolled by. He lived 20 miles in the opposite direction of Hammertown, but $500 cash and he towed us back to camp. We saw NO ONE else. Was happy to pay it, dude saved me. That machine, I decide to upgrade the rebuilt motor to a 1110cc. I didn't take it to the dealer and opted to use my local (vehicle) mechanic. That was over 3 months ago that we got back the motor. Now he is doing other things like making stronger skid plates, Hammertight (or likewise product) on the boxed arms and a few other knick knacks, .. also had a nightmare trying to get the proper upgraded fuel controller. The motor is in, but not sure if it's dialed in yet, it's still at the DAMN shop. Driving me nuts and I'm close to pulling it. Fortunately since I 'hit a rock' it was an insurance claim (got $8300 from insurance) and so most of it will be covered financially.

Next week I take my '19 Turbo S to Glamis and 'side flop' it on the last dune run. Took 1/2 hour to get help to right it and as soon as I turned on the motor and drove 30 feet, the temps soared to 277 degrees, quick limp mode, then it shut itself off. Anyhow, being almost upside-down for 30 minutes cooked that motor. Fortunately, the extended warranty (2 months into it as the 1 year factory warranty was expired) covered it. Dealer did a GREAT job and I wasn't out a penny (saw the bill to the warranty $7400) and I just got done breaking it in a couple of weeks ago, she's ready to rock.

Anyhow, so by the end of February, I had 2 Razors, both with blown motors, within 1 week,.. 1 trip of each other. I definitely  thought about pulling the plug. .. and for me it isn't about the money, it's the amount of time I devote to keeping the 2 machines, TH and tow vehicles going. I'll be 50 in March 2022 and sometimes I think, sell it all and just vacation on the beach.

That being said, I really don't have any other hobbies.. can't ski,.. can't surf.. whatever. Also, I can't sell RZR's with blown motors, so I should at least enjoy a season before I decide to pull the plug.

Wow .. that was a lot of typing. Anyhow, I feel ya. Been going to Glamis off n' on for almost 40 years. I doubt I'll ever throw in the towel, but I think about it from time to time.

OK, that's my sob story for last season.

Be well.

PS. Also I had before the season dumped at least $10k into the '19 and $3/4k into the '14. The '19 I did the whole shebang, cage, whips, doors, lights, parker pumper, race radios, Shock Therapy, etc. etc. Also did parker pumper and race radios for the '14 among other maintenance items.
