Hey, I haven’t been on this site for quite a while.  I haven’t been to Gordon’s in a few years.  Are the closures still there?  I heard a rumor that they may have been removed to some degree recently.

That is what I saw on the BLM site also. Unfortunately, looks like the only access to the dunes is through the 1st set if I am not mistaken. I have not been out in about 10 years but just getting back into it. Gordon's was our go to for a long time. Hope to make a trip out there soon as soon as I can get everything together again.

I don't see how those closures can be enforced without a massive amount of manpower placed throughout the dunes.

Screw em.

They’re enforcing in pickups on the flats. Just don’t emerge there.

In the South Dunes this weekend, I saw one ranger the entire time, I was there for 6 days.  Nobody even came in camp and checked passes.

I saw a few rangers at test hill Saturday. Some in trucks and others in SXS’s. Other than that, it was quiet. As for enforcing, I was with a group that got pulled over in a closure. We were duning from test to Patons and hit the edge of one when we came out of the dunes. We could have split and ran but we took the hit instead. Only 1 ticket for the leader of the ride.

Man it was soft. I can’t believe how many people were stuck.

I looked like the South Dunes didn't receive any rain this summer, the camping was crazy soft.

Going this week, usually camp out west of Plank Rd. Soft out there as well?

We camp straight south of the trees towards the Trump fence, the entrance off the road was very soft, lots of people getting stuck.  There are some soft spots, but the same old typical ones.  That being said we are all mostly Motorhomes and we still didn't get stuck, but we carry good speed, who needs wine glasses, haha.

Nice! Thank you. We always go to the west of the trees out kind of in the center. As of last year, there are no MH in our group.

Side note, we had three nights where people jumped the fence from Mexico.  All three times it was a family with kids.  We talked to two of them before Border Patrol got there, one family was from Peru and the other from Columbia.  Border Patrol was all over it and super nice. The families were nice as well, we were lucky to have some people in camp that spoke spanish.  We have been camping in that same spot for 30 years, first time we have ever seen this.

Wow - had always heard stories from the days before the fence, but none lately.  Although last season we saw a group crossing I-8 at the canal and barely missing traffic Frogger style midday.

We have met and visited with the Border Patrol agents many times. They all are imo nice, specially they ones who are on horseback.

Add, speaking to the agents on horseback, they said they were used in the pursuit of people running drugs across and mostly marijuana . We said we thought that was legal Ca. and Az. they said yes but it is not legal federally.

Before the fence, especially on off weekends they would drive vehicles over and try and make it all the way across.  But then again we rode on the Mexico side all of the time.
