For you Zonies driving in the north valley. Semiconductor plant is a mind blower.

9000 men on site every day.

Im a Union Plumber running a fabshop that IR welds plastic piping spools for that site.  I have two 10 hour shifts running 7 days a week.  Lots of money being spent out there.  They are hurting for manpower and are paying "incentive" money just to keep guys showing up every day.  We issue wheel barrows with our paycheck each week.  lol

great for jobs and the economy but sadly those type of plants use a massive amount of water.  Not sure how they will manage that but obviously engineers and what not have that figured out.

Where exactly is it? DON~~~
 Loop 303 & I-17

While it is great for the guy's working there it sure makes it hard for us not working there.

It is hard to get employees to hire on for scale. When they are offering tons of OT, show up bonuses, per diem and are paying well over scale.

Thanks. The last time I passed thru that area on the way to Utah I remember seeing something going on in that area, almost to the Lake Pleasant turn off. DON~~~

Not to mention the power these fabs consume. Intel has a couple campuses up here and they are by far the largest power consumer in our area.

It will be interesting to see how they manage the load growth as they are also retiring/shutting down large base load power plants while trying to go green at warp speed. What could possibly go wrong??

I think it's cool and good for us overall. Finding non-Chinese made chipsets is a pain in the arse.

My bet is all those zonie drivers are 3 wide on a 3 lane freeway going 60mph in a 70mph zone oblivious to the world around them

Try they are doing 90mph 3 lanes wide and are oblivious to the world around them, but if you are doing 60 they will take notice and will have justification to remove you from the roadway.

Well they don't do 90mph when they come over here on vacation. I'd like to remove a few of them from the road myself...

The will prob have their own natural gas turbine power plant(s) producing their own power...most turbins are 4.5 megawatt...and if they are smart, use the heat waste energy and a liquid bromide heat exchanger to produce cold water / free cooling for the facility. That would make sense at least.  They will use the grid as a backup, or diesel gens, or both.  It's typically cheaper to purchase natural gas to run turbines than pay a power bill...and if you use the heat waste energy, it's a win win.

Tried to see if this was the case via a google search, doesn't look like it -and they ex0epct 200MW of power utilization, that's insane.
