So I drove up to Ventura this morning, and all along PCH, every fire crew and Sheriffs motor officer, along with CHP were on display every mile or so. From Malibu up the PCH through Pacific Palisades, into Oxnard. Even the Navy Base guys were there. The EMS crew also.

All trucks and even ladder trucks, all with lights flashing, crews lined up in a row, waving at the cars driving by. Fire service day is in May. What the heck is going on..

Ventura City Firefighter-Paramedic Matthew Clapsaddle is coming home.

Last week he and his wife Jennifer were celebrating their 25th Wedding Anniversary in Hawaii when he suffered "a sudden, critical medical emergency" and passed away.

Friday, there will be a procession for Clapsaddle as he returns to Ventura County.

The Ventura City Fire Department released the following information about the Friday morning procession...

We hold Matt’s family in our hearts and will continue to lift them up as they navigate this unexpected path.”

Firefighter Clapsaddle was an active-duty member of the department since 1994. In addition to his role as a firefighter and paramedic, he had been integrally involved in the department’s Ocean Rescue Team, Urban Search and Rescue Team, and ladder truck company at Fire Station 5.

All flags are being flown at half-staff until further notice and badge shrouds are being worn by local firefighters in honor of Clapsaddle.

I had not heard any of that. Thanks IFLY

Working at LAC+USC I see these ceremonies on occasion. FD and PD escorts the fallen from the hospital to the County Morgue next door to the power plant where I work. We give them access. Humbling to see hundreds of LEOs and Firefighters lining the streets for the procession. I've seen two in the past month alone, one for the two El Monte officers and another for a firefighter.

This was the largest I've been a part of and stretched 1/4 mile. So many departments I couldn't name half of them. At least 300 of their brothers in attendance.

another firefighter has been hit with disaster ,After a concert in venture he had a serious accident on a bike .severed his spine and is on life support unsure of all the details

You will see this on Mon or Tue as Ontario fire is sending a crew of rigs to bring Curtis home to be laid to rest.

yeah, they do this in Bakersfield all the time for fallen heros

every overpass on the 99fwy

RIP to the fallen in their line of duty.

A Fallen Firefighter's Prayer

Brother, when you weep for me,

Remember that it was meant to be.

Lay me down and when you leave,

Remember I’ll be at your sleeve.

In every dark and choking hall,

I’ll be there as you slowly crawl.

On every roof in driving snow,

I’ll hold your coat, and you will know.

The house from which I now respond,

Is overstaffed with heroes gone.

Men who answered one last bell,

Did the job and did it well.

As firefighters we understand,

That death’s card dealt in our hand.

A card we hope we never play,

But one we hold there anyway.

That card is something we ignore,

As we crawl across a weakened floor.

For we know that we’re the only prayer,

For anyone that might be there.

So remember as you wipe your tears,

The joy I knew throughout the years.

As I did the job I loved to do,

I pray that thought will see you through.
