I almost got the Garmin Alpha 100 which has GPS tracking but settled on the Pro 550. What happens when fido escapes somewhere that does not have wifi? While not fool proof, I’d rather train them to not run away instead of track them when they do.
We camp in the desert a lot outside randsburg. Always some A-hole shooting tannerite or m1000. Dogs f'n hate it and there are always people searching for their dogs. We rescued 2 pits a couple years ago that were 10 miles from their camp and in tough shape. Owners were in tears when we called them and said we had their dogs.... anyway we bought the fi collar for our dog. Idgaf about the $$ but no way I'm losing my dog. It basically looks like google earth but there's a dot. That dot is your dog. Not sure if it needs a wifi signal or not, but we always have a hotspot when we camp. Worth it IMO.

i thought that also until i read some of the things on that link. out where there's no phone, in the desert or woods, and your out of luck
