southern California man was shot by a homeowner earlier this month after trying to steal a goat and a dune buggy from the residence.

In a press release, The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said that 36-year-old Alexander Belinsky was shot by an elderly homeowner who sprung to action after noticing that Belinsky was trying to steal a goat from his San Marcos, California home in the North County region of San Diego.

The 79-year-old homeowner and his 60-year-old wife heard Belinsky rustling outside with the goats and when they went outside to stop him, police say Belinsky pushed them to the ground.

At that point, fearing for the safety of his wife and himself, the homeowner went back inside and grabbed his rifle.

I think the last paragraph of that article might get that old man in trouble. It is California.

Maybe we can make this a teachable moment and explain the law to me. I thought you couldn't bring a gun outside your house and shoot somebody. I thought California wanted you to go in the house lock the door and call the police

The old guy from the liquor store in Norco that shot those robbers is not doing well.  He had a stroke after the whole episode and is apparently coming home for hospice care.  Say a prayer for his family, likely the whole event triggered his decline, but the robbers will never be charged with that.

AZ say, please drag the guy inside your house after shooting them. It makes the paperwork easier. Lol

Not sure hearing that a 79yr old can be thrown in the slammer is a feel good story. ☹️

While the homeowner was inside, police say Belinsky placed the goat in a dune buggy on the property and attempted to start the engine preparing to flee.

Belinsky got out of the dune buggy when confronted by the husband, according to police, who charged him and grabbed his rifle.

Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly after and placed Belinsky under arrest.

Belinsky was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries and the male homeowner suffered cuts on his hands but was otherwise not harmed. The homeowner’s wife did not suffer injuries during the incident.

Belinsky has been charged with robbery, elder abuse, attempted vehicle theft, residential burglary, animal cruelty and battery.

sounds like self defense to me, what would you have done?

Well, me being a middle aged Hispanic, I would've of dreamed of doing some real terrible s**t to that thief but knowing my chances of getting such a nice made up story from the fellow officers would be a real long shot. So to answer your question, not sure. I hope to never be put in that situation. I wouldn't fare as well.

Just remember folks, there are two sides to every story, unless the thieving POS is dead, then it's just your side.
