My daughter is in Lausanne, Switzerland on the wife wants to go see her in the Spring.  

I'd like to go to the War Museum in Bastogne and Normandy

The wife wants to go to Florence.

Any other ideas on stuff to see in Western Europe?

The train, or rent a car?

I used to travel a bit for work & probably one of my favorite trips was Belgium.  just very chill and lots of history. 

a few years ago (long before covid), we took our boys to Germany, then took the train down to Italy, ending in Rome.  we stayed in air BnB kind of places & walked everywhere (trains for long distance).  it was awesome.  we spent 2.5 days in Florence & 4 days in Rome & a week in Germany.  VERY nice trip.  got super lucky with the weather.  I would do that again, but different cities.

Amsterdam. Drugs and debauchery aside that was just a really cool place with good vibes. People on bikes everywhere and hanging out at a cafe in the sunshine by the side of the canal was super relaxing and beautiful. Loved the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum and Heineken Experience was neat.

After my very limited time  traveling in Europe there is no way I would want to rent a car unless the driver came with it. Stick with the train your going to enjoy it much more than being stuck behind the wheel.

Very cool place to visit.  On a serious note, watch out for the bicyclists!
