Agree. On trash day, the recycle bins are raided for cans.
Crap hits the street.
It's against the law to use paint guns on them.

Wow what a shocking photo! I can't imagen how they can profit too much from this? I'm assuming they're not charismatic enough to be a YouTube Influencer.

CA Recycle Centers pay $1.66 per lbs., highest in the US.

Wyoming is next highest at $0.60 per lbs.

We are stupid, but the Palm Trees are nice 🙄

You should film a national geographic spoof video of these upright walking raccoons.

I was collecting coke bottles on my bike at 7 years old for quick money at Circle K, and I think aluminum cans maybe 4 years after that, and my grandfather would drive us to some recycling center with bags of cans. So for me, I can't believe that so many years later some of you guys are saying that's what these people are doing. Like I was trying to say in my first post, there's got to be a better way to make money for these people. I think the BEST panhandlers make more than these people.

I don’t trust the hood I live in, I keep my can behind closed gates and make the trash guy come in for it on trash day

My buddy owns a recycling center in San Francisco. The Holy Grail in the CRV world are the little Yakult probiotic drinks. Those containers are worth close to $6.00 a pound. He has to keep them under lock and key to avoid theft.

No Shit? The more you know...

AI Overview

Yakult bottles are considered valuable to recyclers because, while made from polystyrene (a type of plastic that can be challenging to recycle), the company actively promotes recycling initiatives and often works with recycling facilities to ensure their bottles are collected and repurposed, making them a consistent source of recyclable material; additionally, their small, uniform size can be easier to process in recycling plants compared to larger, more varied plastic containers.

They absolutely do. The military has been battling them in the nearby chocolate mtn bombing range too. Many live off the grid in the nearby desert. There are multiple communes throughout the desert east of glamis between the river and bombing range north of 78 south of 10. A night of dumpster diving after a glamis weekend would be multiple hundred $. Good pull for a nights work when you live in a shit-ass motorhome on the edge of a wash 60 miles from the nearest town. Slab city
And slowjamistan are the ones everyone knows about. There are at least a dozen more that are smaller and not welcoming to outsiders

Thanks for explaining what's going on over there, which I didn't realize. Times are changing bigtime, in Arizona too. I see motorhomes and trailers in some of the strangest places when I drive in the desert, but obviously they migrate north when it gets hot.

Its just an assumption. But yes people are collecting cans here in ca. and i agree its totally not worth my time. I dont save alumn cans. The months of storing used cans and special trip to the recycling center dealing with the drug addicts that are always hanging around them isnt worth the $60 to me. I did read an la Times article where a reporter interviewed one of these people from these communes east of glamis. Apparently they get alot of brass copper titanium alumn and platinum out of the bombing range. Dood even claimed he was associated with the cartels as a border patrol presence informant and route guide.
We used to ride from the salton sea to walters camp or glamis to walters camp regularly. There are communes north of 78. If you stay south of 78 through vinegar wash you wont see anyone
