For all my Dually owners! How much gap between rear tires is required? 1/4", 1/2", 1".  I am lifting my F450 and bought new wheels and tires and the rear wheels have only 1/4" gap, that seems too low for my liking? Any thoughts? Toyo Mt tires...

Check the gap with it loaded. If it gets any closer you'll need a spacer between the wheels. Tire squish while going over a pothole or rough road could also cause the tires to make contact. But it's not a guarantee of premature wear.

I added a billet spacer when I went from 225’s to 285’s. Gap has to be at least an inch and a half with the spacers.

i never really understood why people freak out about the tires touching when the truck bounces.  If you have a gap at all unloaded i would say good to go.  The tires rotate the same speed all the time.  I had on 06 Ram dually with 35's and was talked into some 1.5" steel wheel spacers that cost me $500+.  Never had an issue except for the 10.5 wide tires didn't like the narrow stock steel wheels and separated. Then the tire shop who mounted them would not warranty a new set and i had to drop down to 34's and narrow tires no longer needing the spacers.

Though it's true the tires are not rotating relative to one another, there is still a great deal of friction generated if the tires are close enough to touch intermittently while under load. Also, tires need to shed the heat generated while in use, and the air gap is part of their "cooling system". The gap is there for a reason.

Thanks for help. The Owner of DDC sent me a set of spacers even though he said it was acceptable. Cool guy to deal with. Looking forward to getting my truck back. trying to make Pomona swap meet this weekend.

MY f350 is lifted,  i tow my 46' Toyhauler around 21K on the trailer,  i wanted a rim that handles that weight,  i did they Mayhem dually wheels, they are 8'' wide i have .500 between the wheels,  have put on 30,000 miles with the cooper mud terrain, never a blow out,

In the sand to recover sand cars aired down to 15lbs the tires touch,  with the tires touching, the truck has never been stuck like a 24'' wide paddle.
