Different hubs on a mobile home axle

I have a friend that has a raft trailer w/a mobile home axle on it.   His trailer has mobile home wheels on it, the kind with no center in them.  He wants to change hubs, and then go to standard wheels and tires.  

He has been told that this can't be done.  This brings up to option #2....which is more expensive, buy a new axle.

Can you put different hubs on a mobile home axle?

 
Been through this myself. My 24' deckover had triple mobile home style axles. It was easier to buy three brand new 5200lb 6 lug axles and have the trailer updated. 

Hard to see the hubless wheels in the top pic but you can see the spare in the tongue.

Pic from the day I picked it up at New Trend Custom Trailer in Fontana. I forget who but I gave the old axles and wheels to a boad member here.

i'd get rid of those asap, we went to cali one time to move my uncle from san diego and pulled a trailer all the way. about arizona we had a flat coming home on a sunday, and my other uncle who owns the trailer "forgot" the spare, trying to find that stupid tire on a saturday/sunday was impossible!!!!!
