Common Core Math. WTF!?

I'm having to complete some math tests for a certification and it's nothing but common core math. Has anybody been up against this and were taught the "old way"? This is the most backwards ass way to solve problems that I have ever seen. I can give you the answer but the way they want you show your work would require me to go back to school... Anybody have any recommendations for wrapping your head around this crap? Other than study guides of course. I'm not trying to relearn math, but I may have no choice.  I'm feeling really stupid right about now..

Yes, I was reminded when my daughter was in high school, they switched over in the middle of her attendance. It was quite chaotic and I could not help her. My wife, who has a masters in accounting, was thrown for a loop as well.. They all ended up getting free tutoring because of it.

I would question the certifying organization as common core is more concerned about you using their method than getting the correct answer.

And when my son got to SDSU, they told him they didnt want that sheet anywhere near his homework (Eng Major).  LOL.
