Can Am x3 Check engine light

Has any one heard of a check engine light coming on. When you put a not OEM belt ? My buddies light came on. He said it was because of the after market belt he is using. Do you guys have any input ? Thanks

He has to check and see what code it is throwing.  He may have slipped the new belt and that could cause a code.
