Looking to upgrade to a bigger RV 600 HP and concern with tag axle DP becoming a plow and unloading the drive axles on the DP.

Currently have a 400 HP 40’ non tag and have yet to be stuck in 10 year of camping in the washes.

The other option is looking into super C which both rear axles can be locked in to drive.  Not as desirable as the DP being the living space is much less.  Heard some tag axles can lift up from the ground.  Have not seen any information on if this can be done.

Looking for recommendations if a tag axle DP is a mistake for the occasion encounter to soft sand.

we have 2 of them in our group & neither have been stuck.  we normally camp in wash 10, but move up or down occasionally.

The soft sand would be a mistake. But there is plenty of hardback in the washes. 6 isn't bad (plus you get free mariachi all night), 10 has easy in and out access, 13 is big and hard packed as well from what I remember. You just need someone to scout it out or you need to get out and walk it.

I was under the impression that the tag doesn't actually lift up, you just dump all of the air so that there is no weight on it. But I could be wrong on that.

We have 5 tag coaches in our group.  Over the years we pretty much camp in the same spots.  This year we camped in wash 6 and I came in at night and got it stuck way in the back by the kiddie track.  I was solo so I wanted to make sure I could see my kids while they were riding.  I was fine until i stopped.  Turns out I parked in a dune.  I have a button to lift the tag and traction control.  The tag automatically lowers back down however once you hit 5mph.

Usually just putting the bus in gear it will start moving if you let off the brakes.  So if you hit the gas and you don't start moving just stop.  Toss some stuff under the jacks, lift it off the ground and then put something under the drive tires.

It's really not an issue if your group plans on camping where its hard pack.

What brand are you looking at?

Thank you for the replies.  We frequently say shallow in wash six and it never falls on the big weekends some jack ass is playing that lovely free music.

Newmar has couple floor plans that we like but lacking a dinette that makes into a bed.  Need four beds and not many options out there short of a bunk house which does not work for older kids.   These bigger rigs are not set up for families.
