Quick and cold trip to Calico. My buddy Jimmy...it was his daughter Mia's 16th birthday and he asked her what she wanted to do...she said off-roading!

Great time, but yeah, a little cold at night...even while on rides during the day.

Saturday morning, we headed to a place called "Early Man Site" was kind of cool. You could actually get there off Minneaola exit off the 15 fwy.

But from Mule canyon you just head up through the canyon and keep heading east instead of making the Left to go to the caves...go till you hit the pole line road, make a right and take it till that gets close to the 15 fwy, you'll make a left and then intercept the grated dirt road that takes you right to it.

Basically, some early dig sight. They have metal I-Beam structures over them with metal grated mesh you can walk on. Well I did, my friends thought I was nuts! LOL

The pic of all the white rocks looked like a grave site... :dunno:

From there we headed into Calico for some lunch and a cold one. Epic Bacon Cheeseburger and fries!

Drive home Sunday sucked with total head wind till I got to the bottom of the Cahone pass! Oh well, set the CC to 62 and just cruised, but was getting blown around a good bit.

Fun times!

Bet is was warmer in a Jeep......... Calico is fun when it's not overrun with idiots.

So, Saturday morning about 4am these "Entitled all about me me me's" show up and proceed to park about 50 yds from us and party the rest of the morning till the sun came up where they thought that was a perfect time to set up targets and do some shooting!

:explode:

Mind you, our camp was dead asleep...only thing still awake was the coals from the fire we had that night before!

We were pissed!

nice pics, we go to calico about twice a year

gate keeper, where the jeeps and bronco are is a fun time when the crawler idiots are there

we skipped the early man site and went straight to lake delores aka the old water park, same path just keep going east from the early man site

Oh, cool...I was wondering about that!

Yeah, we were up on that bluff hoping those guys were gonna make an attempt at that area! They turned around!

We drove down there and walked part of it...NO EFFING WAY!!!!!

:lmao:

Great trip report 👌

@dbart, it looked like a fun trip.

The rock crawling thing looks kind of interesting, but it seems that the spotter is the guy doing all of the work. he is running up & down, picking all of the lines, doing safety stuff.  if he had a remote control, he could do it all w/o the monkey behind the wheel.....

I think we were all those peeps at some point.  Now, GTFO my lawn.

I will admit to staying up late but we usually are away from everyone if we have music blaring...we also turn it down around other camps.

But no way we would be shooting up targets at sun up!

Definitely teamwork to get chit up and over, but there’s still a lot for the idiot in the chair to do. Spotter is there to keep you on a line that’s a red c-hair wide. Driver has to drive the damned thing.

That being said: good spotter/bad driver (assuming he’s listening) is a better combo than good driver/bad spotter. At least if it’s an actually hard obstacle. Most of the stuff in Calico, with the exception of that (which I’ve never attempted) and the squeeze (high consequences) don’t really need a spotter if you’re competent though.

I’ve been on trail runs on basically a dirt road where guys are spotting every GD rock in the road. First stop, my buddies and I just keep driving.
