Has anyone successfully made a claim with them ? I cracked my rim and wasted my tire on our shitty road yesterday. The tire shop told me I can get reimbursed. I'm not going to hold my breath but figured it couldn't hurt to try.20240921_104142.jpg20240921_104118.jpg20240921_104050.jpg

they did a thing on the news last year about it & they did say that there is a way to submit a claim. as @1slomofo said, the more info you have the better. they made a big deal about the details. did not say anything about how many of them get approved.

SDG&E shuts off power like a light switch here in Julian. Our refrigerator took a dump shortly after one of their cuts. Wife submitted a claim and they did issue us a check. Didn't cover a new fridge but it helped.
CalTrans being government though, good luck.

Measure the hole you hit & take pic of tape measure while there, bet it corelates very closely to the two cracks in the rim.
 
Talk about pouring salt in the wound. I ran over a piece of metal on the shoulder when I stopped to get pictures. Had to buy a new tire for my wife's car today. Eff me.

Hard to get pictures without getting killed. Traffic was pretty constant today. Lol

Thanks Newscum for our shitty roads. These 2 spots are back to back. I cut from the middle lane to the slow lane at about 75mph. I’ve had to submit a claim in AZ once while going to Happy Jack, last summer due to roads…they sent me a check for 2 new tires.
I know, different state though. Good luck, hope they help you out some
 
California roads are the worst...I had no idea you could submit claims for damaged caused by the worst roads in America!

i know here we have a hot line and if its not repaired within 24-48 hours or something like that they are liable for damages. i'd take alot of pics of road, car, tires, tread depth etc. im sure you'll be lucky if it doesn't get lost in the mail, but worth a shot. local gov doesn't like to be told they are wrong, just found that out with a property water line break, now will probably go to court to get our road repaired because the dumb A inspector wouldn't listen and just kept talking over me telling me i'm wrong. turned out I was right lol!!

That is one the worst parts of 101. Well if they pay up i would be surprised, but maybe they will fix the lane!
 
It's difficult to recover from local or state entities. The road near my house was repaved after some sewer repairs, it promptly sank, and cut down a tire on my Yota.
I called the city, no joy. They had so many "Hoops" to jump through, it was not worth the effort for me. The good news was the rim didn't crater. With the damage I see ^^, you may have a case.
