In the market for a LS that makes around 400-450ish HP, Intake to oil pan.
Not looking for anything fancy, shiny, just a reliable V8 to push around a S&S 2 seater.
10K or so is what I'd like to stick around to get this going if possible.
Any experience with either of these builders, good bad?

Thompson is good. You’ll probably be waiting a little though. Can’t really go wrong with a crate ls3 though.

here at Alper-Motorsports does a LS-2 with H beams rods in that range with billet acc drives, and 243 heads

They are not producing, the LS3 Block right now, so it is a hard motor to get with non China parts inside, we have done a lot of sand cam motors in our time, and one thing to consider, is a street car motor builder will not understand the bearing clearances for the sand. In my opinion, a street car ls3 will not have the correct Rod, Bearings, Lifters, Cam, and Timing Chain, Springs, balancer, water-pump Throttle-body and Valves to make it a long term reliable build,

Or build would be
We have a LS2 Block that would be a 6.0 around 500 HP

Gonna be hard to beat what Alper can offer you for a sand car motor in that price range.

I’ve seen “bulletlsx” postings on Facebook and he seems to be VERY inexpensive, to the point that I question how he’s able to make any money off of his builds if the parts are as advertised.

There’s only a couple machine shops I’d trust in the Phx area, Klein engines (my preferred shop for the few engines I build) Wfo (I have also used but the owner is a bit of a character) and some people like outlaw racing engines, I have heard positive and negative things about them.

If you have a good core I could get you set up with a solid long block in that price range, potentially with a 4” stroke crank if it can be done within budget.

As it turns out, keeping this engine build in the GD family, and went with Alper Motorsports.
Jason's knowledge, customer service, and willingness to work with my budget made the decision quite easy.
Thanks again Jason (y)

Note to self, 2 cars under construction at the same time is time consuming and costly.
At my current rate of progress, I'm shootin for Vets weekend of 2026.

I was thinking the same thing......... LOL
