It would be great to have a list of all the different whip manufacturers.

I have used SafeGlow for years and am particularly fond of the mount with the built in RCA plug.

The only two manufacturers that I know of that use this for LED whips is Safe Glow and Buggy Whips.

Here's Safeglows mount. image.jpeg

Any other options out there with the built in RCA plug?

Also, please post your whips and mounts and what you like about them.

TIA :sail:

I agree, the built-in units seem to be much nicer. I have one set with separate plugs and it's a bit of a pain.

Looks like some of the china whips are coming with RCA.  No telling how well they are made or how they hold up.

Saw the Alien Whip Mount at the show Saturday / By Far the best One Ive ever seen !!!

I’ve always liked the basic  Buggy Whip with an incandescent bulb, RCA Jack and forward folding mount.  If I felt like going hi-tech I would buy a blue or purple plastic cover to protect the bulb.

Does anybody know what happened to Smart Whips? I have 2 of their whips with the "air tool" type mounts and just realized last week they are gone when a buddy mentioned he couldn't find their app to install on a new phone.

I have bought so many brands of whips over the years  and while no expert  I spent a lot of $$$ ....and I prefer the simplicity of the Buggy whip both the original and LED  -  no extra wires and they are bright.  IMO they are The premium maker and cost a premium, but they are so easy and really reliable.  Although the LED 1156 bulbs mostly suck on the originals and getting good standard 1156 bulbs is hard and they seem so dull now ... so I would rather have led strip whips

All the others are pretty similar to me although some hold up better and have better warranties and thew companies while not around as long as BW have $ and staying power  - which count a lot to me.  The new style Magnetic mount whips are pretty cool and seem to be easier, I looked at a lot of them. Compared to the pin type (which are Ok but I lose things like pins)  I had some 5150's  but not buying them again. I bought a set of Marshin whips when the new owner updated the design,  and liked them because I think they have the best positive lock and don't turn, so we started selling them in the store because the price is really good and so is the warranty and they are really bright.  Marshin tells me "others" have grounding issues, but I only saw that with one other brand, so who knows -

I have friends with Whipsnshyt whips and they are reliable and seem like good whips,  reasonably priced and they are bright and owner is a nice guy and member

I absolutely think the 9 million Chinese whips out there all suck, well the mounts are Junk mostly and I see more dead Leds on them, I know that might offend some people but I have seen so many of those fail, its laughable and it seems they all just copied one companies worst design and used the cheapest aluminum  they could find

the rage of the UTV crowd is Bluetooth RGB whips which IMO are a gimmick and something else to fail. the idea is good, but nearly all of the RGB controllers are the same and made super cheap in China and any voltage spike will take them out  (circuit protection is expensive and the first thing to go out of the cost sensitive design)  they also hate moisture, so the UTV guys that seem to pressure wash their cars after trip see lots of failures - so hopefully the warranty is good

thats my 2 cents take it FWIW

I have 5150 whips run day whips and only run the lighted ones at night. I like the magnetic mounts but hate the plugs on the 187 whips. Their warranty is really good broke one on a tree branch and sent them both whips back they checked the good one out and replaced the broken one at no cost. I did like my original old buggy whip with the bulb on top that was a great whip just the tree branches here in Oregon were hard on the plastic covers and bulbs.

I got tired of breaking them off pulling in my trailer I just quit running one. When cops try to pulL me over I just run and head to the dunes. 😂😂. Kidding aside it’s led buggy whips for me. I like keeping it simple. I don’t need it to change color or flash with my stereo or whatever people do now. Screw it on and flip the switch. Works every time.

I bought a 6' multi color led with a quick disconnect and a remote for half the cost of buggy whip with no disconnect. I'm all about buy American but . Wtf. Not even sure where buggy whips are made.

I love my solid blue 5150s except I remember driving the buggy into the garage with them on. Oops! They worked fine until a few buggy rides later one of them started shorting out. It may be from the stretching with the garage incident. I think about getting it warrantied but shipping is probably gonna cost me as much as the whip did. Meh, not sure what I'll do yet, I may dive into fixing it myself as I was able to find the trouble spot in the wiring at the base of it. We'll see.

My friend @HDchevy has made some quick release mounts for our cars in camp that are really nice. Hard wired, push down to attach/detach, never had a problem with sand interfering with the collar. I don't have a pic right now but I'll try and remember to get one. And you can mount whatever flag you want to it.

I've had Buggy Whips, the cheap Chinese knock off whips, and now I have 5150 187 whips. I prefer the 5150's.

The good - I love the magnetic base that they use, and the RGB controller is nice to adjust the color or design. They sell swivel clamps for your flags, so they don't get all wrapped up. Warranty is pretty good.

The bad - The RGB controller comes with 30' (kidding, maybe 10' but a lot none the less) of wiring it seems like. My application did not need much so I have 3lbs of wire loomed up behind my rear seat. Maybe someday I'll try to cut it open and shorten them.

Thats my .02
