Haven't been to Glamis in several years, looking for some advice on best place to park with a 40' toy hauler.  Used to park on the now BLM side of the highway, but I know that's a no-go at this point.  Also, the flats were a pretty safe (better for towing without worry of getting stuck) place to camp.  Where's the place to be now?

Anywhere you want to / some guys air down and haul them in the dunes.....Thats the beauty of a TH..........people still park on the BLM side all the time....

Get out there and drive around......... Have Fun!!!

Anytime you can get on Gecko Road I would camp there hunting for a spot with 40' + behind you isn't very fun

Off weekend Wash 10

Semi busy weekend Wash 16

Busy weekend your f'd so any where you can

Are you trying to keep your tow vehicle off the washboard roads? Further down wash road you go the better glamis gets during the normal season.

If you're afraid of getting stuck with a 40' toy hauler, washes would be the least likely (nothing's guaranteed though, LOL).  Amusingly, the farther in the wash, the less likely to get stuck since you won't have to go as deep into it to find a spot.  Have a group? What types of toys?

Group with Kids and quads, MX bikes, SxS's etc, go camp in the Washes.

Group with adults only and sand rails, camp on Gecko.

Unless your kids are only passengers, then don't take them to Gecko. Too dangerous an area for your family to ride anywhere semi close to camp.

Where is the BLM side?
East of the railroad tracks. You can still camp out there, as long as you are one mile east of the tracks, unless you have a dune permit. You must camp within 50'ft of an authorized route, can only take an OHV on an authorized route or within the "navigable" portions of washes, and you can not access the dunes, unless you push the OHV over the tracks, or tow it with a street legal vehicle (CA street legal)... So... if you want to dune, get a permit and hit the washes. With the improved road, you can easily get down to the 20's, and should be fine pulling off from the road 100 feet or so, more in some spots. Past wash 20, you'll have issues clearing the angles in the washes.

If you aren't fixed to the north dunes, look at the Ogilby Flats or Dunes Vista area, between Ogilby Road on the east, I8 on the South, and the Railroad crossing/Sidewinder Road to the north. Its all hard pack, easy highway access, less folks on the big weekends, and can be good rides to the dunes from the east side.

BLM side I am referring to is the opposite side of the road from The Flats.  We previously camped there all the time (going back 20 years) before they made it a Tortoise habitat (at least that's what I heard has happened).

Thanks!  No more then 3 trailers at this point with UTV's (CanAm's) and a few dirt bikes with paddles.

Just been a long time since I've been . . . always camped The Flats not too far off the Hwy years ago.  Just wondering if things have changed.  The area across the Hwy opposite The Flats is where we would go before they banned it.  But, I am hearing people are returning to that side, which was always a bit less crowded and chaotic, especially on the Holiday weekends.

Nothing planned yet.  Being that I've not been in years, I don't plan to hit a Holiday weekend.  Will most likely come out mid-week.
Well iffin that's the case, you will be able to camp pretty much wherever you please. . .

i think this is an old map, there are sections down by patton that are open now.  it looks like a rake or a comb now down there.  I could not find a more updated map.
