Beeline drag strip

A friend sent me these pictures from a gas station, these are sun shades on the west facing windows of the Shell station at Beeline Hwy and McDowell Rd. DON~~~

I stopped for fuel there on my way to Payson and the mountains about a month ago.

Still think it would have been a cool resto to keep front axle.

I went there when I was a teenager, with some friends.  It was quite an experience for someone who was not knowledgeable about drag racing at that time.  Basically WAY LOUDER than I had ever imagined.

This picture was at Beeline dragstrip. Car in the other lane was a 1962 Chevy with a Hemi, I was told it was going to kick my a?? never seen him after the starting line. DON~~~

I guess it went under when Firebird Raceway opened and took over the NHRA Winter Nationals??? Saw this driving by as a kid since the mid 80's, tower stood for a while, I always thought it was a drag strip but wasn't sure as I thought this area was all reservation land. Think there was a skeet shooting range out there also...?  If its not Indian land then it is a prime spot for motorsports as it will never be close to housing..

Saw this driving by as a kid since the mid 80's, tower stood for a while, I always thought it was a drag strip but wasn't sure as I thought this area was all reservation land. Think there was a skeet shooting range out there also...?  If its not Indian land then it is a prime spot for motorsports as it will never be close to housing..

Beeline closed in 1980 and Firebird didn't open until 1983. DON~~~

I have read that the track folks got crosswise with the tribe, and that was the end of Beeline.

It is Tribal land. There was a shooting park a bit up the road up until the early 2000's but that's closed down too.
