On a VW Baja...are the ball-joint and king-pin front-end cars the same, on the pan, where the front-ends bolt up?

No they are not. A link pin front end has roughly 4 3/4" spacing between the 2 parallel tubes and a ball joint beam has 6" spacing.

So one time just to get rid of some junk I cut all brackets that hold the 2 tubes together off. Mashed down the width of the bj front end and bolted it to a sand rail frame made for a link pin. Sold it for $50.00, wonder if they tried to use it that way?
