One of our customers wrote us a bad check on a set of date coded 1963 Corvette double bump cylinder heads. We have tried multiple times and the check will not clear. He has now moved out of state back east as well. Anyone know the process or chances of legally collecting? Amount was $2,300.

That sucks. Crooks! Hate those types of people. Wish I knew the process other than Guido! Peace

Towards the tail end of my stay in CA, I rarely found a business that accepted checks from newbie customers.  Unless you were a long-time, established customers, no checks accepted...unless they could run them real time for proof of funds and cash it.

Here in East TN, checks are still commonly used.

Best of luck in collecting the money.

EFFING THIEVES!!!

Scum of the EFFING Earth!

I hope you get your money...cut their hands off at the neck! :bag:

You can use a collection agency specifically for automotive, you might get half back, and it might take some time,

Get a attorney and you can sue for double the amount and the attorney gets half. He can file a lean on anything he owns. I have done this and it took a while but I collected it. The attorney put a lean on his house and when he went to sell it we collected. DON~~~

I’d assume you report the crime and the individual will have an outstanding warrant if they ever return to the state.

$2300 is likely a felony.

Totally sucks.
sorry

I haven't had to go any further than sending the form, once they see it will be turned over for prosecution, it's usually enough to get them to pay.
Exactly send the person a registered letter saying resolve or else legal avenues will be taken.  You have the check and as long as it is the person that wrote the check you will get your money

Did that and still had to sue. Since he is out of state the state can't do anything. DON~~~

Any chance that you know people who...know people???

:bag:

You can file a lien on the car tittle as well. May not help much now that they are gone tho.

Month long ad in his new local newpaper that reads "seeking information that can be used to collect on a bad check written by Joe Shitbag". Ever community likes to know who the new deadbeats are. Contact his new local DA, find out who the local process servers are, explain the situation and ask if they know anything about the guy it may not get you paid but you might get some info that might help one way or another.  File in your local court, should be an easy case if he doesn't show up. Get judgement and file for wage garneshment or file a lien on his property. Now the guy has something in court records that can be found through a search in the future.
