So in my shop projects thread I have this truck I am trying to buy. No title and the truck is in Oklahoma.  Here is what I posted in the other thread.

So I wonder if I tried to get a bonded title and there was a problem. Like stolen, previous owner said he never sold it, any kind of lean: Could I then find another truck and VIN tag? This is the VIN plate on the truck now. Called our off site title and registration people we use and she said there is no way to search the VIN. You have to start the bonded title process and go through it. She said any of the above issues and the bond process stops and no title for you.  I kind of feel it will be a needle in a haystack to find another truck with patina this nice. I have looked at every a100 for sale and has sold in the past 3 years.

Maybe contact Oklahoma DMV or the Sheriff's Office where the truck is? You'll need the name and address for the last known owner of record to go through the AZ bonded title process, won't you?

I had people try to trade stuff with no title out of OK, and always made them do the leg work and supply a valid title. Too much risk to end up with a slug.

for something that has been sitting in a field that long, chances of "the rightful owner" seeing the posted bond and contesting it are slim to none

If this were a running/driving rig in someones driveway with no title then, ya it could be hot and a search in progress

I totally snach that up and not even care, post a bond title and move forward

I have seen several of these trucks getting parted out. Might have to check on a VIN tag and a title just as a backup.

He has had that truck 10 years. I bet it has been sitting in the field that long.

I would say looking at the truck no one has been hunting for it, like stolen. They probably just lost the title, could even be original is in another family members name, the bonded route is the way I would go. If all went to heck possession is still 9/10th of the law. Then search another vin plate and paper work.

Just go for it, what is the worst that can happen ?

There's a local guy here in NM that does bonded titles. He kinda "goes around" the crap that takes too much time and pretty much gets you a title or at least the necessary paperwork same day. Maybe he could get you a NM title and then you would have something. Only thing is I think you'd have to get a vin inspection in NM at DMV when getting the title but there are some privately owned mvd service places here that make it a breeze

Most of the vin inspections I've had done here by the private places have been way easier. They just look for the vin number in 2 different locations and they're done

He even got me a title for a tow behind wood chipper that wasn't supposed to have a title but we registered like a trailer. Badda Bing Badda Boom, title and plate. We did that because I was selling it in San Jose for $40k all in cash so if anything went wrong and I had to repo it I would have some proof of ownership. Never told the buyer about the title and registration on it just in case.

contact me, I'm in oklahoma. I have a title 42 lady/company that I have used many times to get me titles.

You can do the title work here, we can either put it in my name and I sign it over to you, or your name with my address then transfer it

to your state. I don't think this is a big deal. She handles ALL the work, costs like 175.00 I think it is.

I have a storage facility in moore okla. if needed to store it until you can pick it up or whatever. I'll help you make this happen however I can

I do know she told me a while back that the okla state tax comm. is far behind on titles, so it may take a few months, but I don't see anything wrong with it. she has got me a title on a jeep cherokee I was told "you will never get a title that's why its so cheap" and I got it in a month from her lol.

She's done quite a few for me. she's on facebook, she even got me a title on a truck I paid 500.00 for that still had money owed on it, they filed chapter 13 or whatever and it sat for a yr at an apt complex, they never came to get it. I aired the tires up, drove it home, buffed it out, put some 454 ss wheels on it and sold it for 5k lol. she got me that title no problem

Being that it is in AZ, I would recommend going with an abandoned title. I have done both here, bonded and abandoned and if you do the abandoned title it takes a little longer but when you are done it is all yours with no possible chance of someone claiming it (although as others have said, I don't think there is much to worry about with that truck either way). I went abandoned on a 1961 Jaguar XKE and it worked out fine. Not sure how it is now but when I did it you had to fill out a form that you get from DMV and then they come inspect the VIN eventually. The process is really geared towards commercial towing companies but you can do it as a "civilian" too. DMV inspector couldn't believe that the Jag had only a six digit VIN...

The property owner will need to sign the form that they are asking you to remove it, but that was really all that was extra as I recall.

Whatever you decide, that is a super cool truck, congrats! Maybe put in a 426 Hemi in a mid-engine config?

Great info. I am buying the vehicle and will figure it out. Zilla I am going to send you a pm.
