I got tired of hauling a whole mess of fuel jugs & am WAY to cheap to buy one of those nice tool boxes with a tank built into them so I got crafty.  I found this 50 Gallon Saddle tank on Craigslist/offer up for $75 or $100.  They even offered to deliver it to me for another $15, because they had a delivery in the same general area as my office.

I pulled the pickup out of it & modified it with a screen to keep chunks out.  I found the pump online & bought the hose on McMaster-Carr.  I ran wires from a "fuse panel" that I had previously mounted under the hood & terminated it with Weather-Pack connector on the frame under the truck.  Its a shortbed truck so I pull it out when Dune season is over.  I have 2 regrets. first is that I pulled the fuel level sender off of the sending unit when I modified it for the pickup I built & second is that I did not get the fuel pump with the filter.

I made the cover out of an old sheet, to keep the sun off of it & the prying eyes off.  I dont take it off.  I simply flip the switch straight through it and as you can see the hose comes through a hole I cut into it.

It works bitchen & was pretty cheap all options considered.

Baldwin FB1307 filter base, Baldwin BF915 spin on filter/water separator and a couple fittings would solve your filter problem

That's cool. I'm a huge fan of repurposing stuff.

A little different but I have a 50 gal aux fuel tank/tool box in my long bed Dmax but it's for diesel and plumbed into my fuel tank filler neck below the fuel cap. I never take it out. Nice to be able to buy 90 gallons of diesel if the price is cheap. During that  Glamis season I only fuel up Red Earrth from September to March. Only thing that sucks is I made my long bed into a short bed.

Hey thinking back, I sold you a tank supposedly for the flatbed trailer, did you ever use that? I still wonder what you did, curiosity I guess. I used that money when I was building my car for a Lowrance baja off ebay. My favorite thing on my car when it's time to jet back to camp in the washes through the dunes.

Are those designed to be sucked through in front of the pump or pushed through on the outlet of the pump?

thanks

Bob

They work either way but in your case it looks like putting it on the discharge side would be easiest.

I still have it but never used it. One of these days!
